Hi guyz, I am hoping that some of you dart experts can help me with educating me on the 68-69 darts. I was a chevy guy forever and now in my very late 40s have be converted to mopar and have takin a real liking to the 68-69 darts. I just don't know much about them. I am reading all I can to learn the differences in swingers, gt, gts, etc. When all my bills are paid off by the end of the year, I want to buy a 68 or 69 dart. I am just not sure what to look for. I do know that I want a 1968-1971- 340 motor and the car itself should be either a swinger or gt or even better, gts. Sorry to be so long winded: 1. what,s the difference in cars, swinger, gt, gts 2. what are problem areas to look for when buying one of these restored cars? Thank your taking the time to share your learned wizdom and responce! email is surefire1333@yahoo.com (mark)

67-69 one body style, 70-72 another. Swingers could be /6, 318 or 340 cars. GT's were V8's. Reguarless which you choose the typical problems are, rust around the rear window, lower 1/4's truck pan and front floors. I like the 68's best then 69. I had a 72 340 swinger for a while. Nice but I was not impresed w/ the 340. If you are starting from scratch a 360 would probably be a better way to go. 340 blocks tend to be more exensive and really don't net you anything over a 360. Plus nobody is going to be able what it is, you could even tell them it was a 318. Another good thing about 360's is you can get magnum 360's (roller cam motors)w/ magnum heads easily. Good luck and welcome.

thank man for taking the time and your knowledge! I will keep that in mind on a 360 roller motor. What's the difference between the 68 and 69 body style , I can't tell.

67, no marker lights, 68 round marker lights and 69 rectangle reflectors on the side. Just google image search by year and you'll find all the color/stripe options. Another thing to consider is a valiant. Usually cheaper and just as coooool.

Dart GTS was only available in 1967,68,&69. 1967 Dart GTS offered a 383 only 1968 Dart GTS were 340 and 383 with four speed or auto trans. 1968 Dart GSS ( Mr.Norm's Grand Spaulding Special) was a 440 car and a very rare car to own now. 1969 Dart GTS were available with 340, 383, or a 440. The 440 Dart is the "M" code on the VIN. For a more specific break down with lots of reference photos and facts click on the GTS Registry link in my signature.
