Hi all

Has anyone got any pictures of Max Wedge ported RPM's. Is it even possible? Is it worth the effort?

Thanks

Dave

I don't know if much would be gained by making the port that big being that it's still necking down (area wise) before you get to the valve, a good size for a hot 440 or a street/strip 500 auto is 3.25 square inches, that's roughly 2.375" x 1.375 which can be achieved on most heads if you're willing to forgo the valley pan gasket around the intake ports.

Here's a ported SD (top) next to a MP max wedge (slighly under-sized as delivered) '337 intake.

i have no pictures, sure its possible, ive done it many times..

when you cut the port to max wedge it will make more power because you have better manifolds

who is to say what the ideal cross section at the flange would be,, the flange angle then would come into account, what you need to look at is cross section of the surface with planes taken with tangents to the surface

ive seen 15-25hp gain on a 440 depending on manifold choice

I remember in the late 70's-early 80's we'd take 915's out to max wedge size and weld up or epoxy the roofs/ pushrod tunnels, the whole bit...of course that was 70's technology but they never seemed to run much better than something 'not quite as big', still had a pretty bad short side to deal with...Jeff when you go MW do you run an offest rocker to take out the pinch?

What kind of power potential are your Max Wedge CNC ported Eddy's capable of???

couple guys have made 700 or so hp with a max wedge edelbrock,,, i think 750 could be possible with a roller cam and high compression

no offset rocker,,,, its still a std pinch

There is a set of max wedge ported Edelbrocks in the swap area right now, one of the last ads in the race parts section... There are some decent pictures...

I edited my post, previously I posted that the heads were in the Big Block parts section...

we made 725 at 6400 rpm with mopar edelbrocks on a 496 with a roller cam. the heads were done by Nick at Compuflow. that was 2.14 and 1.81 valves. the car is 3000 lbs and has been 9.50 's and 141 mph.
