Does anyone know the ARP part number for the head studs that have the longer block threads so the studs go in deeper and clear the header flanges?

I have had to bottom tap the threads in the block so they go in the block deeper, did you run a cleaning tap through the threads to make sure there isnt a burr stopping it?

Cutting them down is a bummer because it takes time and you lose the broached feature.

I'd have to look in my notes but I think it is just a slightly different part number with the extra threads. Maybe a 2.750 long stud rather than the regular 3 inch stud. I covered this in the book but I don't have the numbers handy at the moment.

I looked it up in my book as I couldn't remember the details off the top of my head. The standard stud is 2.750 long, the stud that works with headers is 2.725 inches long.

I wish ARP would change over to the 2.725 long stud in their kits but I guess they don't want to. I did tell them about this when I was researching the book but I don't think they changed their kits.

Is there a part # for these studs? I was thinking I was going to have to order another kit and cut and rethread them from the other end.

I'm pretty sure ARP only has one 7/16 stud that is 2.725 long so if you call them they'll look up the part number. I'm not sure if non-dealers can order direct from ARP or not so you might need to call Hughes Engines or someone like that.

If enough people call for the parts then Hughes will start to stock them. That is what happened with the rocker shaft studs. ARP never did make a kit for Mopar rocker arms but dealers like Hughes dug up the part numbers and started to make their own kits.

Thanks again Andy

I'm pretty sure we have ordered direct from ARP in the past but that was a while ago. I've been looking on their site as well as Summits and have had no luck so far.

I might have an old cataloge, no idea where though. Might take some diggin to find it.

I looked up my old receipts. The 2.725 stud is AP2.725-1B. They cost about $3.75 each. The picture shows the 2.725 stud on the right with the standard 2.75 stud on the left.

Good deal. I didn't know he was stocking the 2.725 stud but if anyone would it would be those guys. Engine building is so much easier when you use the right parts! (and know which ones are the right ones)

Andy even your cost was right on.
I found out that ARP has not put out a stud kit for the edelbrock victor heads, but you can use (10) of the 5.25" studs (8)of the 2.75" studs and (16) of the 2.725" studs order the 12 point nuts and washers to do your own kit.

Any problems with smallblocks having problems with stud clearance? I haven't mounted exhaust on my build yet
