As the title says, Looking to upgrade to LED's on the 1157/1156 front.

Has anyone tried these out on their ride yet? I've been thinking of going with a HiTec LED setup but this would be a nice (and cheaper) alternative if this actually works.

I'm refurbishing the taillight panel of me 73 Challenger so I'm going to have this apart anyway.

Sorry to bump this post but I'm looking for anyone who has installed these in their car. Thinking about buying at least one to see if they're worth it but would like any input.

Year one will cost you more and then they add a big fat shipping/handling fee to it. As with most things, it's available cheaper somewhere else and no need to get out the KY.

with that said, LED replacement bulbs have their limits. They are trying to adapt the technology to work in a lens that wasn't designed for it. Not a huge problem for smaller lights, like dash lights or side markers. But with larger things like tailights, I have seen many people who return them to the store and put standard bulbs back.

I did my charger tailights, but I found a place that made an entire new lense with LED's planted all over it (25 of them) An LED replacement bulb that sits just in the middle won't give you that kind of light. I have seen better ones than I bought that use 200 (smaller) LED's. Those are very nice and look like incandescent bulbs on steroids. the ones I bought look a bit "bling" and modern but I didn't mind for half the price.

You wouldn't mind sharing where you got those or some places that sell them (I am intrigued about the 200 LED setup).

Thanks for the reply. I have to say I'm not too concerned about bling factor as much as I'm concerned about the safety factor.

i use LED bulbs in my 71..i believe they are red 12 LED pieces - they light up bright...idk if they're necessarily brighter than the incandescent bulbs, but they do look nice...the plan was to change the rest of my bulbs to led, but haven't gotten to it yet

Thanks for the great input. Sorry it took so long to say thanks but I had to go through three jets yesterday before I had one that could get my passengers to Burlington, VT. This Mopar boy was telling the mechs what to do! Who sez auto shop in high school doesn't pay off!

Anyway, I'm looking at going with HiTech LED out of California. They have an 80 LED set up that looks good for under $200.

I think they were profiled in either Mopar Action or Mopar Muscle magazine a while back.

I tried the LED 1157 in my '73 Duster. It focused the light into a small 2" diameter pattern instead of filling up the whole lens. I removed them.

From every mag article I've read and the single bulbs I've seen, it's not worth the effort of even changing them.
