You should be able to buy replacement parts from Richmond. I just mocked up a Doug Nash on the back of a 340 resto block the other day using a new bellhousing from QuickTime.

Jim , Deal or no deal? thats the question. Sounds good but lets see what you have. Liberty gears in Michigan has the gears, I bought some used ones from the a couple of months ago. Is it a straight cut gear unit? Does it have syncro's or dog rings? One thing about the trans is it uses mopar a-833 bearings, sliders, shift forks and front bearing retainer.Probably the best thing to do is go to e-bay motors , punch in doug nash , there is usually a guy on there that sells a paper manual. Edit! Send me your address and I'll send you a copy of mine. There are so many gear ratios to deal with you'll need info. to talk intelligently about what you need. The good thing about the trans is there easy to take apart and replace gears, and sliders, just need a good pair of big snap ring pliers. The later transmission had a intermediate bearing to stabilize the shaft.what kind of shifter does it have. It should be worth the $300. you paid for the trans. So if you want , send me your address and i'll get that paper work out to you in mondays mail. Steve

Check the length of the input shaft to make sure it will work. A lot of GM guys use the 18 spline input but it is shorter than the chrysler input.

how long should the mopar shaft be, it appears long looks like most 833 i have sen but i need to measure it. are these pretty reliable trannys, this one has straight cut gears with dog collars, is this a power shift tranny, if so just how do you shift it.

Quickly Slam, bang, and quick as you can You know your good when the rpm doesn't go up more than 300 RPM on each gear change with a Pro shifted trans., the clutchless trans(which yours may be) should not have any RPM increases on the gear changes, just down on RPMs on each gear change

I have never ran a clutchless trans. so I really don't know. What I remember reading is you need something to take the pressure off of the trans like a RPM limiter or let off the throttle a tiny bit Hopefully onevof the current stick shift racers that have and run a clutchless tranny will chime in and give you the straight scoop on what is done and needed to make your new trans work. BTW, make sure you inspect, magnaflux and check for cracks each and every piece in that trans including both cases and tailshaft housing before racing it

It's not a clutchless trans. well maybe, but there $8500 bucks!!! You have to push in the clutch to shift it, don't even try to shift without unless you just want to send liberty more money. I don't take my foot off the gas from the green light to the end of the quarter mile. [ 300 rpm's ] why you shifting so slow? On the in put shaft, I had liberty make a 23 spline out of 300m material and used a billet bearing retainer off a 833 so I didn't have to buy a new clutch setup.

well what is the advantage of straight cut gears if you still have to clutch it. are you just relieving pressure enough for the gear change to take place. this is makeing my head hurt

The gears don't move back and forth while shifting, only the slider which slides on a hub that is connected to the main shaft .The slider is shifted on the hub to connect the gear of choice.

IIRC it should measure 7 1/2 from front of trans to end of pilot. I really doubt it is a clutchless tranny. Keep the gas to the floor and bump the clutch while you are pulling the shifter and it will go. I shifted at 7000 with the doug nash and the graft on the computer would spike 300rpm or so on every shift. As far as reliabilty I started having breakage at around 650hp or so. I know of others that run more hp than that but that is where I had trouble. Now the clutchless tranny on the other hand, I leave it on the wood and pull the shifter at the shift point. The clutchless tranny along with better ratios netted a .3 gain in the 1/8th and two mph. Good luck with the DN if I can help with anything let me know. BTW the video in my sig is with the Liberty

I highly recommend sending the gears to Liberty's or Long Machine and Gear to have them "face-plated" for the ultimate in a power-shifting transmission
