A few years ago I pulled a complete Volare front-end thinking that it would fit under my '46 WC. From what I have been able to find out it would be a very difficult & expensive way to go, so I was just wondering if it may fit some other old Mopar.

I know that these front-ends were the hot item for the older Ford F-1 & F-100 pickups for a few years, but that is all I have been able to determine so far.

So any ideas if this front-end will work on a Mope?

Thanks,

Scott

Dodge Aspens?

It would probably fit pickups with flat frame rails better than the swoopy-framed IFS equipped '34 and later Mopars.

Maybe a good match for someone with a 50's and earlier Mopar pickup truck?

F,M, J- body K-frames were used for a lot of street rods prior to more convenient alternatives that are seen today. They had been used under late 40'5 and 50's era mopars to get disk brakes up front and some people like a torsion bar suspension.

But today there are Dakotas which have a rack and pinion steering and can be adapted to some of these trucks easier. As those F,M,J body cars get older parts get more expensive which makes them less desirable swaps.

The other answer is something fitting may have more to do with the tools you have at hand and your ability to make something fit. A persons ability to fabricate is often defines the limit of what "fits" and what doesn't when it comes to street rods.

Mine fits fine and was easy install...ride is good and with the disc brakes it stops when I want it to,unlike with the drum brakes..only problem was with the headers not clearing the P/S box..but after some %$#@*& ,it now fits..the car is 1956 Plymouth

a friend of mine has one under a 48 dodge coupe he is working on,,a previous owner did the work,

you need a fat fenderd car or truck to use that front end, or the torsion bars will be visable,,

I put one under a 35 Dodge sedan, but the front sheetmetal was modified a lot. In most cases, you have to cut off the front frame and build something to mount the cross torsion bar (F, M, & J body) suspension to. Like stated above, you need to have a fat fender body or truck newer then 48 for the F, M, & J clip to work without sheetmetal modification. Gene

Thanks, guys. I figured that the best candidates would be post-war cars primarily because they are wider.

Very nice '56, Dynamite.

So what to do with this front-end I have?

What to do?

Just curious, but for you guys who are using a Volare front end, were you able to pretty much just mount up the front end to your existing frame and use the rubber k-frame isolators? Or did you cut off the front of your frame and then build up a stub to mount the Volare front end onto? The pic of the '48 looks like it could be the latter.

Thanks,

The 3 I've done I cut off the original frame and built a 2" x 4" subframe to bolt the clip to. The front 2 bolt holes are wider then the rear 2 bolt holes by 4", Thought I had a picture of the 54 truck's frame but can't find it right now. Gene

you will have to slice and dice,it wont bolt up to any thing like it does the factory volare,,,you will have to make sure it is square,,and figure in where you want your ride height to end up,all tho you can get dropped spindles for that front end from fat mans

As for the Volere type K frame. In my 56 I did make a new sub frame, only because a friend of mine who was a master welder wanted to...and it came put beautiful,,,but if I had to do it again I think I would use the original frame..easier to align up the front clip etc..each car is different..
