For the past 4 years I have been a Drag Week participant in the daily driver class and have always made the 32 car field for the final day. As this venue grows in popularity the competition also grows and this year even though I qualified I was farther back in the field than I would have liked. The cut off for daily driver is 10.80. I do not want to put a bar in my car so I am limited to 11.50. My car is a consistent 12.00 car with the odd dip to 11.9 and once into 11.8s. I know I could pick up some with headers but it is fun running with manifolds and I would like to keep them if possible. Here is my set up and I would appreciate your imput into some possible et reducing improvements.
1968 RR 3820 Lbs with me in.( Yeah I know diet would help)
451 otb 84cc eddies Muscle Motors rotating assembly
528 soild cam
10.1 comp
performer rpm intake
800 avs eddy
MP electronic ign with chrome box
727 T/A forward manual/lba
T/A 3800st converter
8 3/4 with 3.91
M/T et street 235 60r 15 26.1" dia.
HP stock exhaust manifolds

The tire dia is small and I used it to pick up some gear. I do not have a traction problem with this small of tire in fact it works quite well.
What do you think, am I there or is there room for improvement with the manifolds?

Sure, plenty of improvement is possible. I'd start with the heads and maybe change over to a single plane intake. Give Dwayne at Porter Racing Heads a call, he'll set you up with the right combination.

Calling Dwayne as mentioned above would be a very smart move! He will know exactly what you will need.

In my opinion, porting the heads and a good single plane manifold would be a good start. Dwayne could spec you a cam that could pick you up some as well.

Ported heads, single plane, and cam will get you to your goal of 11.50's, and still retain excellent street manners!

I would ditch the AVS and go to a good 4150 series Holley. A 4781 or a 1000HP would definately make more power than the AVS. I would also consider porting the heads and switching to a single plane intake. Send the heads to Jeff @ MCH for his CNC treatment. The Performer RPM is a decent manifold, but a MI single plane will make more hp upstairs and will work well with ported eddies. You mention a ".528" cam. Are you referring to the .528 MP solid? If so, Dwayne could definately improve upon that.

put a double pumper on it and you'll pick up 2 tenths easy.

Put the exhaust manifolds in a mill and make the openings a true 2.5" blend everything in as far as you can reach. Build a nice x pipe and pay attention to the match at the manifolds. Have the heads professionally ported with a good valve job. Cut the divider in the intake Vanke style and have it ported with the heads. Cut the heads for some more compression 10.75 should be fine with the aluminum heads. Put a set RAS rockers 1.6 ratio. Good luck

Getting old just means you were smarter than some and luckier than others.
