A SS/AH car from scratch, that can run in the 8s, for 30K???

IMPOSSIBLE!!! I don't care if you do it yourself out of a one car home garage.

Exactly why would it cost more to build a class legal car? I'll stand by what I said, a guy like cw could build a legal car as fas as what he's got for less than 70 if he did all the work himself,of course if he did that I'm sure he wouldn't have the time to devote to what he does best

There are very very few people that could do "everything" themselves and have any type of halfway decent car in the end. You can always tell a car when someone claims to everything in house. Usually half the car is marginal, and other aspects of it are just poor quality.

But that few can if they had the desire and the where with all to do it.The only question I have is who wants to dedicate all their time and money to a "class car" other than for personal selfsatisfaction. To build a class car or SS/AH car by yourself and on a budget would be similar to a masochist whom derives pleasure from injury.I would stay clear of such a project unless I had the funds to seek out the best of each in their field to build each componant that would compliment the total assembly and find the best driver to obtain a successfull goal.My opinion of class racing is a dog chasing it's tail.If it catches it,so what? And if it's a short tail it may even get a bad taste in it's mouth. I have watched over the years many noted classes racers and find the only reward out side of their circle is the notation in the back of National Dragster or Drag News:Class winner so and so,one of one,one of 2,how much more obscure can your hard work and vested value be deminished.

Hello Everyone...I hope this messages finds each of you doing well...and staying dry from all the rain.

Anyway, the purpose of this post is to let those SS/AH teams heading to Bowling Green know that VP will not be at the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion.

With that in mind, I am heading to VP's facility west of INDY tomorrow (Tuesday)to get myself some C-25. If any SS/AH's teams need me to pick up a few gallons of C-25 for you let me know and I will bring the C-25 to Bowling Green with me on Thursday.

Best Regards,

Don Bales

You are correct. A CAR can be built for that kind of money, but that is not a legal ss/ah car. Big difference.

The only thing not legal on the car is the intake and carbs.Chit I had 5 different legal intakes at one time.I built it to be legal car when they were running 8.70s,Year later they are in the 50s.I said to hell with it and put the 4500s on it.

I'm not sure if I have one of the back. I'll look in my photo collection and see. Here's a side shot from last year.

Don,

We're not able to make this race. Motor not back from engine builder yet. Should be done soon. Nice heads-up on the fuel issue. Tech doesn't like it if you mix Sunoco with VP. Quick story, we normally only run VP, but had attended a IHRA track which they only had Sunoco. I had had drained and flushed Sunoco in the cell, before adding fresh VP. Found out later that the small amount absorbed by the foam was enough to contaminate the new VP. At the Dutch, during one of the morning qualifiers, I couldn't pass fuel check. They suggested getting the foam out of cell and flush at least 3-4 gallons thru entire system. Did that and fuel checked OK on next run. The good news is we'll have the fastest golf cart for next several races.

Hope to make a few divisionals before Indy. See you then.

Do they test for octane or that it is gasoline? I wonder why the brand difference would change test results

How big is the motor in your 65, and what does it run?
