Last week I hit a deer with my 2004 Neon. It's still driveable, just very ugly. I just got a call from my Insurance company and they have decided to total it. They are going to have someone call me about the option to keep the car which, depending on the pay-out, I might fix it myself since all the damage is cosmetic.

My brother found a 2002 Neon in the junkyard with a good pair of fenders and a hood. My question is will the hood from a 2002 fit my 2004? I'm finding conflicting information on line.

You need to find 2003 to 2005 parts.

The fascias (front and rear) were different in the last 3 years of the neon, and though an earlier hood might "bolt on", it isn't going to match up to the front fascia very well....probably not at all.

Keep in mind the hit you will take if you ever go to sell it due to the carfax report that will be generated.

He'll take more of a hit buying a new car. I say toss a set of fenders and a hood on it. Price new aftermarket, You may be surprised at how cheap they are.

Duffman, Just looked up some prices for you.
New fenders are about $65 ea.
new. The hood is about $150
Bumper cover is under $50
Head lights are about $120 for the pair

These are prices from ebay, I can check my aftermarket catalogs at work but Im sure they are probably about the same price.

Suprisingly not that bad. I took the fenders off, pounded them out as straight as I could, pounded the hood out the best I could, and installed a JY headlight I got. The car goes down the read at 70 mph just fine, no shaking, only a slight pull to the left.

I would post pics but I'm not sure where the CF card I have them on went.

Don't forget shipping. That $150 for the hood will become a $300 hood quickly and I can source a JY hood easily for $200. I'm not a big fan of aftermarket sheetmetal anyway, it usually doesn't fit very well and I've been burned before.

My only experience with aftermarket parts was about 20 years ago. I bought a set of aftermarket fenders for my pickup. After the freight charges I could have bought the same fenders from Ma Mopar for about $25 more. And I wouldn't had to massage the top of the fenders to fit well around the base of the windshield.

Do you have any Pick-A-Part salvage yards nearby? Fenders are about $25, hoods $50, etc. And you can often find the right color. I'ld fix it, as long as it still drives good.

Yes we have quite a few. Unfortunately most of them are for older cars. I know one that has a Neon the same year and color as mine, unfortunately it was rolled and doesn't have one straight panel on it.

That's the plan depending on the numbers the insurance company offers me.

I have one fender that came out of a yard for $50. The going prices seem to be around $125 a fender, $200 for a hood and $125 a headlight. Luckily the bumper cover only has minor damage and can be saved. My car is PB5 Electric Blue which doesn't seem to be a very common color because I haven't had any luck finding parts already in the right color.

There are some with free shipping actually. I've had pretty good luck with aftermarket panels, I use them ever day.

I recently priced out parts for the GF's (98) Neon above from RockAuto:
Bumper Cover $50
"Absorber" IE Styrafoam $16
Bumper Support $24
Headlight $28-66
Turnsignal $3
Fender $38
Hood $85

Of course after you add oversize shipping for the hood, the prices go up but

I'm getting all my parts from the JY in the wrong colors for about the same cost.

They have places all over the country and are very reasonable. I got an early neon hood there and it looked and fit great.

The catalog states all the hoods are the same 2000-2005 for non srt models.

i use certifit parts all of the time. most of the sheat metal parts fit pretty good. some of the bumpers are formed so so.
most of the parts sold on ebay are certifit parts. buy local if you can and save on shipping.

Well my insurance company is totalling the car. I'm waiting to hear back from them on $$$. It depends on what they will give me for it with and without keeping the car. I already found a 2003 Neon that mets my criteria so I have a contigency plan. I'll post an update once I know what is happening.
