Has anybody tried using a product called Armaflex to insulate the inside of their car? It is used in the HVAC industry as pipe insulation. It can be bought in sheets from 1/4" to 1" thick. It is glued with contact cement. It is a closed cell rubber product. The price is low, especially compared to some of these other products like Dynamat or others. Just wondered if anyone could say it's good or bad for this use.

This stuff is as cheap but far denser and it is closed cell. Easy to work with. I have seen the stuff at the Home Centers too but this will work way better. Thanks for the reply.

I recognize a lot of the asbestos products there on that list, but in my career (1975 - 2010),I have never known Armaflex to contain any asbestos. Description Mold resistant AP/Armaflex Sheet & Roll Insulation is a flexible elastomeric thermal insulation, black in color. It is furnished with a smooth skin on one side which forms the outer exposed insulation surface. The expanded closed-cell structure of Armaflex makes it an efficient insulation. It is manufactured without the use of CFC's, HCFC's, or HFC's. It is also formaldehyde-free, dust free, low VOCs, fiber free and resists mold and mildew. All AP Armaflex products are made with Microban® antimicrobial product protection for added defense against mold on the insulation.

As long as it isn't friable it can be full of asbestos and do no harm. What's the prob? I will prob use it.

If you can't hear it coming what's the point.......

You can purchase it at any insulation company or insulation distributor. We use Armstrong 520 glue to nail it down. If you know a pipe insulator they are pretty good at this (30 years). When I get back home I'll be doing the interior floorboards too.
Does it remove vibrations as well? What is 520 glue, is it aerosol or brush on? what thickness did you use on firewall and floor?
