So let's see. We are going to replace a car that you haven't been able to buy at a dealership since 2005 with a car that later today will be on a list of cars released to the public that is getting axed.
Great timing, Chrysler. They are actually debuting the new PS Avenger on the SAME DAY that they are announcing the end of the model. Is it any wonder that US car manufacturers are going out of business? Really, people. There are CEOs making millions of dollars a year to make incompetent decisions like this.
Not Ford, they seem t be the only ones getting anything right.

Would you much rather continue using the Stratus body? How about those G6's. How many teams are switching over next year to a company that isn't even in business!
At least if they say they are going to axe the Avenger, it will still be a couple of years before that actually happens, so the body will stay current.
Let's hear your idea of what they should do...

Don't forget that the whole reason Chrysler ever got in trouble was because of Daimler stealing all their money and buying stupid stuff with it. Don't know where this thread is going.

They should scrap the brand new race car and built a Fiat Version.
In God we trust, all others pay cash.

The point of factory-backed racing is to advertise a car you want to sell, and a car you can sell performance parts for. What is the point of racing the Avenger if it won't be available to buy? Team Mopar should be racing Challengers. That is a product that will be available for the near future, plus it is a natural for drag racing from a performance-image perspective. I see a lot of modded Challengers on the street. I don't see any hot-rodded Avengers with Mopar Performance parts on them, do you?
Regarding the Pontiac G6, since Pontiac will cease to exist shortly there won't be any factory-backed Pontiacs out there. You may have some independents buying old cars and trying to compete with them, but GM isn't going to be funding those teams.
I don't think GM is funding ANY teams!
Can you guarantee the Challenger is going to be here in the near future? When it comes down to it, you would probably be taking a step backwards going from the Stratus to the Challenger aerodynamically.
As for the Avengers, yes they do sell some parts and pieces for them. Just like any other car though, only the diehard Mopar guys will mod theirs. Exhaust kits, stripe kits, fresh air induction, wheels, etc. They are out there.
This is my favorite part of what you said though:

Let's go back to the 1980's in Pro Stock. Imperial, Firenza, Eldorado, Topaz, Cutlass Calais. Yep, they were real worried about selling performance parts.

The point of this car is to be competitive. If the old Stratus is slow and out dated replace it with something better. Sure they could run the Challenger, but you would never see it because it wouldn't qualify. Good advertising there, huh?

I think Jeffarry is correct, but you would have to go back to the 60s and 70s...back when production cars were actually used in racing. The only purpose for factory backed rcaing now is to put the Brand out there at big racing events. As long the car says DODGE or MOPAR in big letters on the side the sponsor is happy...and most fans are too. Long time Chrysler fans dont like it...we remember the good ole days...but its different now-a-days. Yes the cars are insanly fast now, but i would like to see them race show room type cars..again! Have Challengers, Camaros, mustangs race mass produced motors and mass produced cars. Ofcourse, that will never happen..NHRA and NASCAR, might not like it and it would cost them business at least at first. But I think it would be better for the sport in the long run.
