13.5 is just fine for the switch, just make sure your fuel system can deliver 30% more fuel than you would need with gasoline. Ethanol won't destroy rubber hoses as methanol would. i'll be switching to e85 next year too, and already have the Dom carb converted...13.5 540 with way too small 440-1 heads. around here, e85 is $4.50/gal. cheaper than race 110. and even with the 30% increase in fuel demand factored in, the money saved will add up quickly. like you say, the motor will run cooler too. it's a no brainer Mr Pbody should chime in with some good advice...

This was my second year running E85. 2008 with a carb, and 2009 with the Ron's Flying Toilet mechanical injection. I love it. Runs great, cheapest hot rod fuel around. It is slightly cheaper than pump 87 octane gas. http://www.e85prices.comMy Combo: 4.250" stroke, 4.375" bore, 511 CID in a low deck 400 block Indy 440-1 heads, 68cc, giving 13.5 CR Indy 400-3 intake (single 4-barrel dominator) Comp Cams solid lifter MM305S-10, 279/287, 0.650"/0.630", 110 LSA 2-1/8" x 32" x 4" collector headers I only use summer grade E85, 82-85% ethanol. Ask the station owner for the delivery sheet to make sure the ethanol to gas percentage is right. Avoid the winter grade which could be as low as 70-75% (suitable for lower CR); and will also change the tune up needed. You will need to deliver about 30% more fuel than gasoline, so make sure your system is up to it. Check this forum: http://www.e85forum.com

Wow!!!! It's only $2.19 here.... Better find a better source
13.5 is no problem with e 85 carb and fuel pump have to be able to handle alcohol. Also pump has to flow 1/3 more than before. Those are pretty much the only changes.

on tip i give is to find your source for E85 and stick with that source. or test your content often. i just bought a drum so that i'll have enough to last. also i take plenty with me to the track.. if you are going out of town and not sure you brought enough for the long weekend research available stations before you leave. i was told about this website and even seen it in a post on this site. it offers alot of good info. www.raceone85.comthe guy that did my carb has done many e85 setups around here if you'd like his number pm me.

So how much E85 does it take to feed a 512 that made 700hp on the dyno. Carb is a 9375 Dominator.
How muc pump do you recommend and how big of a fuel line?
Thanks for the links and advice.
Still takes 30% more fuel to make the same BTU as gas. I run a 8896 1050 dom on my 405ci with 94 jets sq but the bleeds are different than a gas set up... I run a pair of Holley black 150s same as I did for gas

Does anyone have experience testing the E85?
I test the E85 every time I buy it. Since I fill a 55 gallon drum every time at the pump, that is about twice a year. But before I buy it, I ask the station owner to show me the delivery sheets that list the number of gallons of ethanol and gasoline they put it.
Using the standard water test, I have always got batches between 82 and 85 percent. Always within 1 or so percent of what the delivery sheet showed.
Beware of other than summer grade E85, as it could be as low as 70% ethanol. That is bad for all mixture tuning, and really bad for high compression engines. I just happened to drive by the station today, and tested what they had. It was still 85%, but this station doesn't move very much E85 and doesn't get refilled every week or so like their gasoline tanks.
My 511 CID burns really close to 1.0 gallons per run. That includes driving to the staging lanes and back to my pit spot. On gasoline, it burned 0.7 per run and on methanol (alky) it burned about 1.5 gallons per run.

The procedure is in this E85 Handbook, near the back in one of the appendices.
