I know this has probably been brought up a thousand times, sorry ...but how much lighter are fiberlass fenders than steel on a typical A-body (69 dart)...and what manufacture do you guys like?

I have heard from people that have made the switch that said the difference was nill+ add to that the fitment issues and fitting the headlight buckets(street car)and it`s a wash. Not personal experience....just what I`ve been told.

i know yrs back when i put them on a 70 dart..
i was able to specify race or street.
the race version was lighter...
fitment took some dealing with..but frankly
ive had steel donor replacement fenders take more time to fit than teh glass ones...
id say fiberglass parts up front are cumulative
the brackets,,bolts,,buckets..add up..
and in the case of the 70 dart/demon the headlight eyebrow/extension..in stock form weighs more than it would appear. there was a savings on that part for sure.

cheapst.

IIRC, on our 70' Dart, the fenders were about 25# and the glass ones were 6#.

Use light fasteners everywhere and the weight starts to add up.

If you want a really light car, you have to find savings in as many places as possible.

You may not have to fix rot but have you seen a glass ft. end car that has sat in the sun for months? I have and it`s not pretty. My car is all steel except for the hood and ft. bumper and it weighs in at 3150 lbs. w/me ready to race.

I've built about 45 glass nosed race cars over the years. If your running down in the low 8's...sure glass it....but if your a bracket guy and weekend warrior stick with steel. My Dart has the complete front steel. When time permits I'll add fiberglass bumpers only because they are straighter than mine and because I'm having them spray chromed to look factory. You money on fiberglass fenders for the 67-69 Darts is better spent other places.Oh and the nose on my all steel car is one piece and removable it's so light even with the factory bumper that my 11yo does the other side for me.
Heres my old mans car all steel also
