I just got my street car up an running a couple weeks ago an took it to the track to test and tune the combo and found that I have a tranny leak back around the tranny mount when I make a pass, it leaks out on the exhaust H pipe leaving alot of smoke behind me. The tranny never leaked before and the only thing I did to it was drop the tranny mount and lower the tail shaft to slide a tranny blanket into place. Is there anything in that area that could be leaking? I've looked it over good and ruled out anything forward of the speedometer gear and it is not coming from the seal at the end of the tail shaft. One other thing, when I had it apart I misplaced the bolts from the mount to the housing and had to get new ones that ended up alittle longer than the others, is it possible that they pushed thru into the area of the housing where oil is and the leak is coming from around the mount bolts? Thanks for the help. Dave

Its possible the new bolts went through... they would.
need to be a fair bit longer.... but anything is possible.
Does it look like its coming from the mount area.
Put it up on stands and run it in gear and watch it.
Hope you find it... thats a strange one.
Do you have the vent in the rear... check for the fluid
being over filled(check it in neutral)

Thanks Mr P Body, I still have the stock vent in the bell housing area, I checked the tranny level at the track with it hot after a run and it was just under full. Took the car out for a drive today and noticed smoke when I jumped on it, stopped and looked and it was dripping down the back side of the mount. When the car is idling or shut off it doesn't seem to leak, but when I am in the throttle it leaks pretty good. Checked the tranny level when I got back home today and it was just at the add mark now.

Check the rear trans line fitting. It may have gotten cracked from moving the trans around. It seals when static, but when the trans rolls over with a load it opens up and leaks. Something to look at anyways.

Thanks Hemiroid, I was thinking the same thing and checked that. I undid the tranny blanket and everything in that area is dry. I wish I could get it to leak when the car is idling and I can get under it to see the leak, but it only seems to do it when I'm on the throttle hard and running it thru the gears.

Under the transmission mount there are two philips head screws that hold a narrow plate that is used to cover the access slot for the rear tail bearing retaining snap ring. Check and see if this plate is tight.

Thanks Turbobitt, I just checked that and it doesn't look like the problem. My tranny has that narrow plate on the side of the tail shaft housing instead of under the tranny mount. It was dry right there, but thanks for the idea.

Thanks for the help Superstockracer, I checked that plug you are talking about and that area was dry also but I apprecciate the idea. The oil seems concentrated at the mount area so I'm starting to think I may have cracked the tail shaft housing when I had to use a little longer bolt . I'll have to drop the exhaust and tranny mount next and see.

Was yours cracked right at the mount or was it some place else on the tail shaft housing? Thanks for the help.
