I would like to know how big of a stroke can be put in a stock block with aluminum rods. I know I can build a 543 with 2.200 rod journals and steel rods, but aluminum rods are so much bigger I don't think they will fit. Maybe a 528 with a 4.250 stroke?

I had a 543 with aluminum rods in a stock block, creative clearancing, but it all fit.

With aluminum rods, you could make a 4.25 fit. Which would be ~505 CI, depending on overbore, not 528. A 4.375 stroke would be about 528 CI.

I have never seen a 4.5 stroke with aluminum rods in a stock block, but as mentioned above, it sounds like it can be done.

What ever bore but figure 4.5 stroke with standard cam block...GRP aluminum rods just need a hair of clearance.

Mine was 4.5 crank, with Miller Rods. As mentioned the GRP would be better, I had a lot of iron dust on the floor and had to trim a touch on the rods too. Dont remember all the specifics on it, I had that over 10 years ago.

Thanks for the info. The 4.375 crank was the one that I was woundering if it would fit. I didn't think 4.500 would work at all. I was also worried about the rods hitting the cam.

I had a set of BME aluminum rods made with 2.100 journals, 7.050 long for an offset ground stock crank. I would bet you could easily go 4.5+ stroke with those, being so small. I wouldn't try it on anything but the absolute best crank material though!
