Since installing the new 408 in mt Dart I've had traction issues. I work swing shifts so I only have two week ends off a month so my time is limited. With the weather the way it is this time of year it's crap shoot to plan on going to the track.
The first time out it spun the first two passes and broke the rear end on the third. The second time it spun every pass. My ET Street Radials were shot so I was running my 28 X 9 slicks while I waited on the new radials come in.
The new 275/60 ET Street Radials came in last week while was I working but the weather was too cold and wet to race.
I spoke with Travis at Calvert about where the Cal-Tracs needed to be set up, 1/2 turn pre load on both sides with me in the seat, shocks on 5.
So today I take off to Gleason TN. to try it out. The first pass it hesitated on the hit then spun and ran 6.84 @ 101.32 in the right lane, so on the second pass I go to the left lane. It hesitated and blew the tires off. Before the third pass I took out the 35 squirters and installed 37s and set the shocks on 7, back to the right lane, still spinning but the hesitation was gone. On the last TT run I set the shocks on 9 and took one turn of pre load out of each bar. It hooked hard and pulled strong the entire pass, 6.61 @ 102.24 with a 1.41 60'. Now this is what I've been looking for
. I didn't change anything for the first round of eliminations thinking maybe I'm getting a handle on it. Dial 6.61, do the burn out, pull into the beams and blow the tires off at the hit
.
So now I know how my winter will be spent, mini tubbung and installing the new Dana that I'll buy. I'm scared of the 8 3/4 now, low 1.40s at 3300# seems like a gamble to me.
Needless to say I'm very happy with the way it ran on the one pass that it did hook up. It only has ten passes on it with zero tuning, so it may have some 6.50's in it
. Not to shabby for a pump gas, flat solid cammed small block. Makes me wonder what it would go with two more points of compression and a solid roller
.
