I am looking for a picture of the right side of the upper engine of a a 1971 charger roadrunner cuda or challenger with a 383 holley four barrel, 4-speed manual car with a heated air air cleaner. In particular need to see the wiring from the two wires of the Idle solenoid one to the distributor vac advance and one to the engine harness. I have the correct solenoid and advance but there has to be some sort of short harness to connect them together and to the engine harness. Hope someone can help. THANKS!!!!

I was hopeful that someone had a 71 B or E body with the 383 4-speed that I could get a look at. It is no problem wiring it to work if I have to, I just have all the proper parts and wanted it to look right when done.

Thanks for he pics of the cars challenger1 but I am looking for a picture of the right side of the engine where the distributor vac advance and the idle solenoid connect. There must be some short harness that connects them and I do not have it so I wanted a picture of this area of the engine compartment so I could duplicate one. My research shows that this set up was used in 71 B&E bodies with a 383 4-speed car. If you have an original 71 with this set up I would surely appreciate a picture of this area of your engine compartment. Thanks

Just an FYI, my 71 W200, 383, manual trans, had that same stuff on it, so someone with a truck might be able to help with wiring pics too.

Do you have both wires coming off the distributor?

Thanks bjohnson for the reply. YES I have the wires coming off of the distributor and the ones attached to the solenoid, but they are not long enough to connect, nor are they the proper ends to connect if it were long enough. so there must be a short harness of some sort between them. It is the proper solenoid (NOS) and the proper advance (NOS) and of course the proper holley carb. If you can help further I would appreciate it. Thanks again

I can’t help you with the requested picture but be sure to check page 8-153 in the 71’ FSM, shows a female bullet type connector on a short lead paralleled off the dark blue field wire at the alternator. This provides the ign. power to the retard solenoid with it's other lead running to the insulated cap on the carb mounted curb idle solenoid to provide the ground to retard the timing ~5 degrees or so at idle. The picture above of the OEM retard/advance unit shows the original leads used to make the connections. Should be relatively easy to recreate to whatever length you need, it would appear.

There is a good shot of the 71’ Holley 4160 leads on page 14-67.

72 roadrunner I did see that in the FSM but wanted to wire it factory correct not just put a wire connector in there if that is not what was used. I do have a numbers matching car and am doing my best to it get back to original. Moparmike the picture of the passenger side of the engine may just do it if the air cleaner was removed. Thanks everyone for there help.
