Hi guys this winter im going to build a 360 for my Dart and I'd like to see how my build looks. 360 +.030 Compcams xe268 kb107 pistons Magnum heads with pocket porting Edelbrock airgap/600cfm performer Keep in mind that this car has a 904 with a PTC 3500 stall converter and 3.91 gears. Think this would be a solid 13 second motor? Thanks

Dunno, I'm not really an expert, but I think you don't need that high stall speed to get a 13 seconds car on an A body. Maybe something on 2800-3000 rate will be enough

I would really like to see a crower 271/284 W 485/495 lift cam in that engine. Does a fantastic job. Ran consistant 11.70, in 3000 lb car stock 587 heads with no porting or gasket matching and 4.30 gears. Should easy make a 3.91 geared street dress Dart or Duster run the low 13/mid 12's with good tires for the gear.

Thanks guys! If I used that voodoo cam, the magnum 1.6 rocker ratio would make the lift different. .494/.513-1.5 rocker .527/.547-1.6 rocker Could I use that cam with the magnum heads if I got new valve springs and had the seats machined?? Thanks

use hughes 1110 springs. stock mag springs are wimpy and only good for ~.480 lift. hughes springs/retainers should get you up to about .520-.530" usable lift, and are ~135 seat pressure with 345lb/in rate.
cam and converter should be able to handle an XE274, but you'll probably be nipping the 12's with the smaller cam.

Patrick do you think I should go with a smaller cam for my combo? would the xe274 perform well? Also, with the xe274 and 1.6 rockers, would the spring seats need to be machined for clearance? Thanks

my own magnum heads, stock uncut, the springs had ~1.63" IH. they coil bind at 1.1" (measured using a vice and calipers)using the hughes 1110 springs, and junkyard retainers from a 2.2L mopar with the magnum keepers, I had 1.60" IH. these springs coil bind at 1.04". when I had the valve job redone, instead of machining the spring pads (which I've heard are kinda thin), I had them sink the valves .030", which netted me 1.63" with my retainers. the hughes spec retainers give you a little more IH, I think. you'd have to measure your own parts to be sure of what you could/couldn't get away with. I personally am one that feels a lot of people overcam their motor for their needs, and I prefer to speak softly and carry a big stick (be fast, but with as tame an idle as possible). I think the comp XE268 or crower mentioned will be enough cam for your needs (something in the 224@.050)...the bigger cam might make more power up top, but sacrafice some low and midrange that is a lot of fun on the street. if you plan on following Dulcich's magnum porting article from the may '05 MM, I'd think about a single pattern cam, maybe a like a comp 270H or 280H....

The only things I'd change are the carb and cam, easy high 11's. A Holley 650DP would be a good choice and if you can't go solid lifter cam, call Tim@Bulletracing cams for a good hyd lifter cam.I'd stay single pattern and 108-109lsa. Grind #CRA284/284 works very nice for a mild street/strip 360. Valve springs need 125lbs seat 300lbs open.

You should speak with the cam grinder before you make a purchase. The power band of the motor (cam selection) needs to work with your 3500 converter. If they do not work together, you will not optimize the package and you may be disappointed. They will need to know a bunch of facts to get you the right cam. Compression (measured and calculated, not guessed)and other stuff will affect your choice.
You'll need a hand full of thick washers to shim the 318 engine mount to fit the 360 block. Measure carefully so you don't crack an ear bolting things down.
