Blair Rotabroach is a nice set up. Replacement cutters go for $8-$9 each, 5/16" and 3/8", 3 teeth. Buy extra locating pins too. Cut like a lathe but are brittle. I would get upwards of 1000 spots cut before it got dull (if I didnt break it first )
Been using the spotweld cutters from Harbor Freight lately. $3.99-$4.99 (depending on sale)Two sided cutter bit, also an "annular" (ring) cutter like the Blair. 8 teeth, not as brittle, will continue to work with a broken tooth or two. Maybe 200 cuts per side of cutter so upwards of 400 per unit.
Dont overheat either one or it wont last long. I use bacon fat for cutting lube

Reg old drill bits work best for me.
And I own all three different kinds of spot weld cutters and still use a reg drill bit.

It is best to use a low RPM, high torque drill to not dull the bit or overheat it. I use a Snap On 1/2 inch air drill that turns 800 RPM. My Blair bits last a long time. I also have used many Wurth 8mm bits that worked well.

I am on my first body work project, doing the floor pans in my Challenger. I used the cheap $1.99 spot weld cutters for Harbor Freight. I bought several of them not knowing how long they would last, I got the whole pan out only using one. But I have no other practical experience to compare to others. I just chucked it in the dewalt drill and had at it. Seemed to work fine, but I am no expert.

Get the "Rotabroach" cutters made by BLAIR as recommended above , however get them from MAC TOOLS . They warranty any broken bits , holders , even the center punches! MAC also covers ALL my drill bits ( dull or broken!)

I did most of my car with the Harbor Freight cutters. For a lot less cash they did the same job for me as the Blair I used previously.

Are the HF cutters the same as the Eastwood cutters?? The eastwood worked well for me ( same design as the HF) I set my 2 speed drill in the slower "screwing" speed and used a little oil.. Worked great.. Don't get in a hurry or you will break off teeth...

An electric griner also works good,,,,you will see a blue ring when are thrugh the layer you plan to remove. I use this method for the most part, but the ones you can only get at with a drill I use a standard drill bit.

I found that if I started the cutting process at a slow rpm that the cutters wouldn't break so easily. The cutters are brittle and the spot welds have high points on them so by going slower until you have good full contact on the weld (a complete circle being cut) then increasing the speed the cutters will last a long time.

I have tried the harbor freight bits, but they wanted to walk off too much and I would often brake tips.

Started using regular drill bits and an air chisel. Be careful with the air chisel, you can do damage with it if you are not careful. I spent 2 hours drilling out welds in my floor and only got about 1/4 of the way done. I grabbed the air chisel and removed the rest of the floor pan in about 2 hours. Worked great, especially on the frame sections. Keep your chisel sharp.

You can see pictures on my website.

I appreciate the feedback. I picked up some Motor Guard corp. magna products cutter and bits. Although they arent name brands they were actually the only ones i could find in town. Hopefully I'll have some time this weekend to try them out!
