Oh...pinion angle question...never fear they will be plenty of answers. How did you arrive at those numbers you posted... I assume the proper way to set pinion angle is measure the transmission slip yoke then measure the rear end drive shaft yoke..These are the numbers you want to go by. Make sure the car is level like it would set in the staging lanes or on the line. Its simple math from there. Like +2.5 slip yoke + -4.5 pinion yoke = a -2 pinion angle. Cause of pinion wrap on a leaf spring car most look for 4-5 deg nose down (- pinion angle). Were a ladder bar car or 4 link moves very little so they can read much closer to zero. Any positive pinion angle is bad.

Really, not a 2x4 that I have ever seen. If you dont have anything positive to add, please move along.

bob, I measured like in this diagram. thats where my numbers came from. you could call it 87.5/87.5 on both I guess it depends how you hold the gauge.

Yes you are now parallel. So put that 4* 2x4 shim in there, for a nose down pinion angle. In your example both camps methods, would work out exactly to the same pinion angle. It isnt always like that though, witch is why I aways use the Tranny/Pinion centerline method. The more accurate camp method!! mike

with the shim that thick does the locating pin for the housing need anything?a longer bolt to reach the axle perch or something?
Not in most cases IMO. I have seen some different height locating pins, but most IMO would be plenty long enough for a 4* shim 3/8 thick on the fat side. As its thickness would be half that at the pin.
But it would be something to check.
But, I say, Go ahead with the 2x4 mike
