Planning new engine build. Looking for opinions. Planning on building my 440 into an Indy headed 500+ stroker. Can't afford to do the whole thing at once, so I'm thinking of building the entire top end this winter. Thinking of using a ported set of Indy EZ-1 heads. TTI 2 1/8 step headers. A Comp Cams solid roller cam. Don't think my M-1 intake will work with the max-wedge heads? and either my Quick fuel 950 or stepping up to a dominator.

Then next winter, I'll have the stroker short block built and put all the new top end on it.

My eventual goal is to get my 70 Challenger to run low 10's

How does my plan sound so far?

Why not go with -1's?
I'm at the same stage, I put my -1s on my 383 with the same FT cam etc, and basically put it in the high tens. My 499 stuff is sitting in the corner, waiting.. I wouldn't get a cam yet, wait till its going together. You're direction could change a bit by the time you're building.
Should add a lot of power to what you have.

I have a simular combo. 500" indy ez-1's by compu-flow, comp roller. you're gonna have to get the indy intake or one with max-wedge ports. my car w/ me weighs 3400. I went with the ez's due to being an A body. she put down a 10.34 @ 129.5 yesterday and that's only the 5th run on the motor.

I assume you mean 440-1 vs EZ-1? The 440-1s are another possibility. Does anything need to be done to the block to run the 440-1s?

Either EZ-1s or 440-1s fully ported, 280 at .050 roller. 2.25 intake valves. 1150 Dominator on 3x manifold. 12.5 to 1 CR. dual line oil system and T&D rockers. That should get you down to 10.0s.

What are the pro/cons between 440-1s & EZ-1s? And thanks all for the input!

The ez's were made to fit in the smaller a body engine compartment. So the -1's have a taller ex port which can make more power. My thoughts are, if you can fit them, why not use 'em?

Edelbrock makes a max wedge port victor intake for the 440. I think they also have a super victor with a dommy flange. For what it's worth, I did a little bowl blend and blended the cnc'd intake entrance and got 355 cfm out of a set of victor Max wedge heads, stock valve. The 2.200 valve is too small for the bowl of these heads so I can't wait to see what they'll do if I cut 'em for a 2.250 valve.
They still oil through the head as well. If that's something that concerns you. Get the T&D rockers if you choose to go that route.
