Did they use the same caps on high performance engines or did they use different caps. The reason I ask is because I sold a 383 block today to a guy and after his 2.5 hour commute back to his house he called me and said he wanted the main bearing caps so he didn't have to line bore it. I have two 383's and I found one complete set and 3 of the 5 of the other set.

The caps were the same on all of them. Regardless, if the caps came off of a different block than what he is using, he will HAVE to line bore it.

Caps are the same, but any caps off of a different engine will need to be line bored to work with this engine.

He is looking for the original caps from that engine.

Thanks guys. The guy ended up being really cool about it an I'm going to mail him both the complete and the partial set. I was just trying to save the guy money, being tough times and all.
