Hello, I was wondering if any of you guys has used the ATI pro glide with a Small Block Mopar with any luck. I bought the glide with the Super Case, tailhousing, sfi bellhousing and adapter kit (sfi flexplate and crank adapter). The problem is that the converter will not go far enough into the transmission to bolt it altogether. I get a measurement of 1 1/2" from the edge of the flexplate (tranmission side) to the block. However, i only get a measurement of 3/4" from the mounting pads of the converter to the bellhousing, see the problem? I went so far as to take the trans and converter to Ati to see if maybe I was just not getting the converter in there far enough. Well, they cant seem to get it in there any better either but measured the converter inside and out and couldnt find a problem with it. they pulled one of their glide converters they had lying around (im using a compettitors) and tried to install it, it gave us maybe an 1/8" but not enough. Im just seeing if any body has had a similar experience like this because they seem clueless and I sure as hell am ...of course there not gonna say its anything with their trans and that might be true? This thing is brand new as well as the converter. Hell even the starter (Mopar Denso mini)will not sit flush with the converter and flexplate installed, their response was that the bellhousing was designed with the original starter in mind and that mine will have to be shimmed...OK who would by a trans of this caliber and use a 35yr old starter? Any sugestions?

OK.... did you buy the converter new?

How think is your mid plate?

that is a great glide, you will need MEGA hp to hurt it.

Yes, the converter is new (ptc), no midplate.

Hmm, you might be onto something there. What would the difference in the converter be if it was made for a mid-plate? Is the snout longer or something?

is there any chance that you are not seating the converter properly ? maybe your not getting the converter seated and your hitting the pump rotor ?

I guess that could a potential problem, but I hope not...remember I even took the trans and converter to the "professionals" at ATI yesterday and they couldnt figure it out. They just want to blame it on the converter but couldnt find no problems with it after they measured it (both internally and externally). I had three different tech/salesguys out in the parkinglot trying to get this dam thing in further and spent 20min on the phone with them

midplate conv. usually only has a neck that is .100 to .125 tho. longer.at 3/4 of an inch differance i would bet its not seating the whole way back on the pump.they can be pretty hard to get back in when new sometimes.try lifting the front hub that goes in the crank while you turn the conv and wiggle it.

OK...really dumb question.

Is the converter you got built for the right input shaft?

Can you pull the input shaft from the trans and put it into the converter and it seats all the way? Be very careful with this, not to damage any of the seals on the shaft, a knick and you could lose some pressure in the trans.

Yes, the input shaft is fully seated in the converter. Its pretty snug to boot, kind of a bear to pull out of the converter( the input shaft usually pulls out everytime you try to install the converter)

I see ATI is at its best again...Lyn the part owner knows me well.. better look at everything you bought from them.. REAL close..
They make one of the best gear sets out there. Thats all I will buy from them anymore..and balancers.

P/S I like the word Professional's you used. If you find one there let me know

Good luck

Got a question for anyone out there that can help. I Get a measurement of 1 1/2" from the block to the back of the flexplate (converter side) does this seem excessive? Just trying to rule out a few things here. this is an R3 block with a callies crankshaft and ATI supplied flexplate and adapter

Flexplate on backwards? Dont rule out the converter. Lords knows I have had many issues with that brand and hub and lug placement.

I think I may have installed the spacer incorrectly? Going down the garage to check on it now..you would think something like this would come with directions for dummys ...still dosnt help with the conver/fleplate/starter hitting issue but it may be a start
