I have a question for John Kunkle or other Torqueflite expert.
I am helping a friend with his 70 GTX. It shifts into 2 gear at about 10 mph and 3 gear about 15mph with light to moderate throttle. We would like for it to hold a little longer. Also it shifts during full throttle runs at about 4500 rpm. 5500 would be more desireable.
We have the kick down linkage adjusted all the way back at full throttle.(WOT)
The car is equipped with a 411:1 rear end. I am wondering if the governor may need to be changed to a lighter weight model due to the high tailshaft speed with the 411.
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Kick down should have an 1/8 play left at WOT. If you have it jambed all the way back it can cause problems. You should have a 3 peice linkage. Both rods need to be adjusted or the pivot ratio will be off and adjustment in correct.

The shift speeds in the OP are close to factory spec.

Thanks Guy's,
I guess to with the 411 rear it takes so little throttle to go it seems to shift very quickly. I am also going to ask if anyone might have put a shift kit in the trans.

Thanks again, MW
