Hey guys I have a 72 runner and it is a bench seat car. I found a set of buckets and a matching back seat for sale locally for a good deal. My question is are those two years interchangeable with them being different body styles? Thanks for any help

Yes but they are visually different if that matters to you. Also bench seat car does not have the floor reinforcements on the inside next to the driveshaft tunnel. If you do not have them use a large thick metal plate to support the floor underneath.

'73 Satellite seats were a bolt-in in my '71 Charger.

Like said, visually they're different with the button look all over the seats. Physically they bolt in.

I think the upholstery will even interchange between the two but not positive on that?

The upholstery won't interchange between 71-2 seats and the 73-4...foam is different...I've already looked into that trick...

Dang it. The 71-72 upholstery looks so much nicer. But isn't someone also repopping the 71-72 style foam these days....

I put 73 buckets in my 71 RR bench seat car.
You will need to drill new holes and reinforce underneath.
It will look great and buckets are much more comfortable.

Just take your time to locate the seats left to right. I'm pretty sure the hump in not exactly in the middle.
The driver side has more room.
Look at some stock 71-72 RR or Charger's with buckets and eyeball the location or measure location from door sill to seat frame on both sides and you should be close.

Anyone else?

I just don't remember the details anymore.

On mine when I installed the buckets the floors were dimpled where to drill for the bucket seat studs.

Repo seat foam is available for the 72’ style bucket seats. The repos lack the burlap/piano wire matting molded into the original seat bottoms. I created burlap/piano wire mats to lay over the seat bottom springs, similar to the way the rear seat bottoms are assembled.

Comparing my original 72’ bucket seat RR to my donor 72’ bench seat Satellite Sebrings, the bench seat outboard mounting holes use the same “dimples” in the floor pan as does the manual bucket seats. There are dimples in the floor pan that correspond to the inboard bucket mounting. The factory welded reinforcement plates onto the top of the floor pans at the inboard bucket seat mounting on these b-bodies. Reproductions of these plates are offered on Ebay from time to time by Rocket Restorations.

You will find other dimples for what I believe could be for the 6-way power buckets located about 2 inches outboard of the manual bucket seat holes.
