Just wondering if I could bolt a 3.9 V6 into a vehicle that originally had a 318. My understanding is that the 3.9 is a LA engine with 2 cylinders removed. How about the mounts? Will a MT flywheel from a 318 work with the 3.9, or will there be balance issues? Any aftermarket intakes available for a 3.9? Thanks

If it did fit....Why? You're going the wrong way.

no aftermarket intakes available any more...used to be a MP 4bbl.

the 3.9 only has magnum style mounts, it doesn't have the LA ears like the 5.2 and 5.9, so you'll have to fabricate your own.

Really, the 3.9L had magnum mounts before there was a Magnum? The 3.9's been around since the mid 80's.

FWIW the 3.9 equiped trucks we've had have gotten no better mpg than the 5.2 equiped trucks we've had. So by chance that's the reason for wanting to do this swap I would rethink it.

I have long pondered this swap for my 65 Cuda. Essentially, I would mount the V6 so that the front of it was in the same location as the 273, easy to do with the pre Magnum version. This would give me about 4" extra clearance between the back of the engine and the firewall. THis would allow me to move the trans a similar amount forward. This would allow running an A500/A518 style trans and minimise the floor hacking needed.

It would also allow room for turbo plumbing across the back of the engine for a crossover to a single turbo placed where the battery would be. Room in an early A is limited.
