at what horsepower do you spend the bucks to change over to the real good input shaft(ringless,300m or? )and add more high gear cluches. i think you upgrade the pump with the input. but at what hp does this need to be done. this is a 2300lb chassis car, with a 900+ hp now without any problems, but he is going to put the big bullit in next year. thanks for any info. lee

How about this idea. Just build it once and be done with it.

you failed to mention just how big of a bullet.
At 1500 or 2500 there are differences required

oops my bad. we are thinking in the neighborhood of 1200-1300 for the new engine

i would think that at these levels being mentioned here money "shouldn't" be that much of a factor. i tend to agree with Al and would get the best stuff out there. money wise i wouldn't think there's a lot of difference between what is necessary and the top shelf parts.

I am going to the dark side this week and I bought the good input shaft and 1.80 straight cut gears. All rated to 1150 horse but I am only running around 620 horse. I am spending the money so I don't have to do it again.

you don't need a $5k monster glide just a good one with the best input and quality gear set. 7-8 high gear clutches are fine up to 15-1600hp then you'll need more, just make sure you have plenty of line pressure. I just built this one for the bird.

I run a dead stock one in my Duster it takes 900 hp all day.

Yep
A stock 1.76 gear set, a aftermarket clutch hub, good input shaft, billet 2 ring servo, some pump mods, and case mods..and a stock case, stock gear set will withstand a easy 800+HP no question..

A pump upgrade is not required with a ringless input shaft. In a dragster application, an 8 clutch drum should be fine, but I would go to 1.80 straight cut gear set and the ringless input. Tire shake is as hard on these parts as torque, hence the suggested upgrades. As far as spending money once, I agree with that. I sell a glide with aftermarket case, ringless input, 1.80 straight cut, 10 clutch drum, roller tailhousing, pro/tree brake, billet servos and other top line parts for $3500. We put this same trans in 3000lb cars that make over 2000hp and have no issues. Sure, I could upgrade it to a Vasco gearset, 300M NASA shaft and gerotor pump and take your $5000, but very few cars need that, so I dont sell many of those.

thanks for the reply. i know this trans is a 1.80 straight cut gear set with a hughs pro brake and reid case so we have a good foundation. sounds like i need a new input shaft and high gear set up.

hey monte where is that x at?

thanks lee
