Hey fellas, i have a friend who's contemplating a race truck. He has a couple of options ;

#1 is a Ramcharger that has allready been tubbed and setup for street/strip with big tires/slicks.

#2 is a 76 D100 that's pretty much bone stock and has a big block in it currently.

He's looking to go 11.50's and doesn't want to install a rollbar. He's hoping to run a 3.75 stroke 440 type build.

Just wondering how light either of these trucks can be made and what suspension mods are needed.

Thanks, Ron

Build a Dakota...Pretty easy to get them around 3K with a big block setup. They work well with B body 8 3/4 (mine had a dana) and you can get 11" wide slicks under those trucks. With a Cal track setup and milder engine, this truck as pictured went 1.35 60ft, before I got serious and added some extra power.

Our 84 Ram should be real close to 3000# with the 360/904 combo....a bone stock 84 Ram Miser slant/stick has a curb wieght of only 2800#

My 82 weighs just over 3500lbs race ready, with a smallblock and a 904. Only thing fiberglass is the hood and rollpan though, Jesse.

Man I love your truck...I saved that pic the first time I saw it.

As long as I'm racing, it'll be my Gen III Dakota.

IMO, Gen III Daks are the looking trucks ever made.

My '78 D100 is 3235lbs with a 360 and an A500 trans. Not light, but not super heavy either and always open to offers.

The ram charger will weight a lot more than the pick-up I am sure, so I would stay with a pick-up. To run 11's a big block is the easiest and cheapest way to go for sure.
