What is the budget? Using the B wedge for a base I would not go longer stroke than 3.915.

I seem to recall a 451 build that used all off the shelf parts, that`s about as budget minded as one could hope to get.
I think, if memory serves me, and it has been a few years, but I think it was using a 383 block bored and a 400 crank and 440 heads, or something like that. Anyway it all added up to 451 cubes and on the cheap too.

But then again I just saw one of the ads on Moparts here for big block stroker parts and at $1,400 for a long crank, H beam rods and some pistons, .... it`s pretty much a screamin` deal.
Hell, I have darn near $4,000 in stroker parts for a small block but of course that includes almost everything for the build including valvetran stuff. Just wish I still had my beatup old van so I could use the stuff hahaha.

I'm in the middle of building a 451 right now. 400 block from craigslist $60 (thanks Doug), steel 440 crank $100, 440 rods $20. KB 280 pistons $300+. will be bored/honed, balanced, mains turned, quench pad machined. Only big expense will be the heads (915's) as quench is a must and I'd be better off just biting the bullet & springing for some stealths.

Are the Stealth's going to cc just right with the
KB 280 pistons? What cam are you planing on?
Sounds like a good write up for a Mopar mag. doing
a budget build. With the right cam, it should make well over 500 HP.

bds871cuda, I have not figured the CR yet but I want it to run on 87 with a very mild cam so yeah I better nail down the head choice pretty soon. Its going into a daily driver beat up 65 Dart currently w a stock 318 & since this is an old clunker other drivers are not giving me any respect.

If you have the 400 block and 440 crank and rods, and machine work is free, then turn down the 440 crank to fit the 400 block, add new rod bolts to the stock rods and recondition the rod ends. I think KB has affordable off the shelf pistons for this combination too. Depending on your power level you could port and recondition the heads (becuse you mentioned the free machine work), or drop on some stealth or performer heads. Cam and compression really depends on the power band you want, and the fuel you will be using.

That was my first thought too, except it is getting hard to find "cheap" 440s, and he already has the 400 block and 440 crank.
