Searching the web for distributor springs a little. Not much info posted on them. I have a msd distrubutor and am looking for the softest springs I can get basicly. In the msd spring kit all the springs are still to stiff. Looked at some mr gaskets springs but not much info on them. Anyone have any ideas on some soft springs I could get?

I am no expert, but maybe you are looking for a locked out dist. with a timing retard for starting? How much faster are you looking for the timing to come in? The light springs I got with my smallblock pro billet were pretty soft.

I used the spring kit(two littlke thin springs) Mr Gaskets sells for Chevorlets in a newer MSD Mopar distributor two weeks ago, the customer didn't have the kit with the bushings and springs that come with the distributors when you buy them new. Thoe new springs retarded the timing when shut off so the car would start fine and they advanced so it had 34 degrees at 1200 RPM and higher

Yes thats what I am trying to do so I dont have to use a start retard which never really seems to work. My friend did this as well on his motor and works great with the msd distributor. He was not sure what the spring kit was he used that was intended for the chevy hei. Thanks I will try the mr. gasket kit.

If you have the late model MSD distributor you need the black (I think) bushing also, that shortens up the mechanical advance so you can have 18 degrees at idle(below when the springs kick in) and 34 or so at or above the RPM when the little springs stretch out. Make sure and check your total advance, don't run it higher than 36 or 37 degrees revved up, especially if it is on pump gas
