Has anyone done one of these? I'm wondering about the driving performance (torque, HP, etc..)
Would you change anything? Was it worth it?

Thanks

ps. please refrain from "why not just build a..." comments

I have built one and it is ready to fire up. I would just get a diamond forged or some custom pistons. I used KB 356 to save money and by the tim I had them milled and the block milled to get everything to fit I could have bought some real nice custom forged pistons. I built this one to have a lot of TQ because I don't like spinning a motor a bazillion rpm to get somewhere in a hurry. Now I am building an even bigger small block motor for my car and this one is collecting dust (on the storage bag)

Why not just build a... Oh never mind!

If you are using the 318 block, you can use the KB847 pistons which are dished.

the KB pistons are Forged.

they also make a KB847 flat top but the compression will be too high for the street.

It'll feel like a 360 on steroids.

If you cam it properly it will be a great street engine. A neat thing about big inch motors is that they have more torque from zero to at least the torque peak.

Strokers are not magic, they are just the most direct way to increase cubic inches in a given block.

Now someone will chime in about the "extra leverage of the longer stroke". If that were true the stroker would have MORE than a proportional increase in torque, measured in lb-ft/cubic inch. I have not seen this to be true. But the increase in torque from idle to torque peak is real and is what most street engines need to feel more powerful.

R.

PS: It's a long shot on any stock Mopar V8, but if your current shortblock cannot rev high enough to use all of the cylinder head flow potential then the stroker will make more peak HP.

I am nearly done with my 390 project and hope to have it running soon. I used a 69 318 block and used the forged KB847 dish pistons. I figure a C/R around 9.7-1 using magnum style heads and pump gas 93 should be fine. I will certainly post my results when its running but I built this motor for torque and no higher rpm than 6,000........
I am using 3.23 gear with tall tires so we shall see how it works out... TBF

Did you piece it together or buy a kit?
Also, did you have to do any balancing?

Bought all the components and had it balanced. With the very light KB pistons and light Eagle sir rods, it balanced internally at a bobweight of 1735. Enginequest magnum replacement heads with 2.02/1.625 valves with lots of bowl porting/blending. Comp HE275HL cam with 1.6 rockers and hooker super comp 1 3/4 headers shold make this little 318 stroker easily outpower a stock 440 6pack!! TBF

where did you buy it and how much?
I found Hughes Engines but I sent them a few emails with questions and they dont respond, I guess I have to call them.
Did a engine shop balance it, if so what did they charge?
My problem is there's no engine shops around here, the closest one is almost an hour from me so I'm thinking they're going to be pricey being that there's no competition around them.
