Hey I have a 64 plymouth with 440 iron heads 727 456 rear super stock springs 30x9 hoosier radial slicks. My 60fts jump all over best 1.50 normal 1.53-1.56.I can get two passes in the 1.50s then it will go 1.68. The track i run at isnt the best. My question should i get rid of the radials and go bias or cal-tracs. Thank Mike

I would suggest the cal-tracs with a good set of shocks

I would get rid of the radials first, they do not always work good on bad tracks Your 60 ft. times are good when the car hooks and stays hooked up. Many people fight the Cal Tracs and never get them to work as good as your car is doing now The bigger tire size will help also, especially on marginal tracks.

I had several 1963 Belveders, I'm sure a 10.5 by 29 or 30 will fit with no big problems other than getting the right wheel offset, maybe even a 11.5x30x15

i would say it's a combinatin of poor track prep and radial slicks. i would consider new slicks...from what i've read the radials have a tendancy to be inconsistant on marginal tracks..i had the same issue as you are describing(although not radials)and i put a new set of slicks on it,and it went right back to normal, only moving around between .002 to .008 on the 60 ft.for the 7 passes i put on it @ norwalk for the cc race.

If you are going to continue to run at the same track, either back-half the car for bigger tires, or slow it down for the 9's.

...will they work....absolutley.. but will they last(#of passes)?...no, not very long..i get about 75 passes out of my small tire.then the 60's start to jump around and it's time for new meats..

Have you tried swapping the slicks from side to side? Another possibility, maybe the side walls are shot and its just time for new slicks.

I am running a Hoosier 30 x 9 radial slick at the track on my 63. I have stock suspension with SS springs. I will say when the track is not good I dont always hook good. But when the track is working they hook great. I have my best 60 on them and they are also faster then the bias tires I did run. Even when I dont hook good I still run faster then the bias tires did. I like them but I am not a class racer as I just run my 63 at T & T's a couple times a year. Ron
