i have a red cap group 27 dry cell battery i bought from restoration battery about 6 years ago. i have never had any troubles with it at all. the car can sit for over a month and still cranks over. when i store it for the winter i leave the battery in the car and i don't put any charges on it.
i started in on last Saturday , 35 degrees, without any problems, 624 ci hemi 1500 cfm dominator card WITHOUT a choke. turned the key, electric fuel pump, pumped it 4 times, cranked it over and it fired up and then died. had to do this 5 times before it ran. never had any problems about loss of cranking power.
after it was running i put 75 miles on it to get rid of the gas. filled it up, put gas stabiliser in the tank, washed it, changed the oil, checked the antifreeze, then parked it for the winter.

If I were you, I would go right out and buy a lottery ticket.

It's a dry heat
We bought 3 of them about 4 years ago. All 3 were dead less than 18 months later. 1st one died in less than 12 months

I bought 2 over 4 years ago, both from TurboStart both sealed group 27. One is still in a Cuda I since sold and the other is still going strong in my Coronet...

I agree with Runcharger. Its ridiculous to pay all that money for a repo battery and only have it last one year or so. After market batteries are half the price and last 6 or 7 years. You can buy a mopar battery from a factory dealership that has MOPAR written all over it for under a 100.00 dollars that looks fine to me under the hood.

I bought a group 27 battery from Newcastle and it lasted about 6 years. I drained it out and only used it at shows after switching it out with another battery.

I like the idea of hiding a battery in the old case..

One of the vendors (Antique Auto Battery?) was selling Optima-based reproduction Mopar batteries.

It was a bit on the expensive side - i.e. >$200, but I didn't feel like going through the short life cycle and potential acid spills for a freshly restored engine comp so I stepped up and was not disappointed.

The solution is simple. Buy a new, regular battery and 6 plastic bottles of Coke. While drinking the Cokes , paint your battery black. By the time it is finished drying, you should be done with all the cokes. Glue the caps to your new black battery. Voila, you now have a vintage looking battery.

Seriously, a couple of guy around here have had pretty good luck with longevity. Especially when you consider the usage and set times. Show and Cruise season then down from November to March.

Don't forget to put Rum in the Coke. Red Cap Newcastle 3 years this month still going strong.

Considering the cheapest Optima is around $150, the extra stuff to make it look vintage is to me quite reasonable. I am partial to the Optimas as they were developed here in Denver by the old Gates Rubber company and I used early prototypes in the 70s with great results.

Ayyyyyyyyyyyy. My Newcastle was clicking but a servicing of all connections solved it for now.
