I need to add two return lines in my polyethylene cell. One for the bypass on the pump and another from the nitrous regs. Where is the best place to drill the fittings in at? Any techniques to keep junk out of the cell?

I don't know if it matters where you put them, but when I did mine I stuck my hand in the cell (plastic)with a rag and drilled through, and caught debris in rag. If it's aluminum it's a different story.

Remove the filler neck hardware, remove the foam, use a holesaw.Clean all the crap out and reinstall.Drill your return hole as far away from the pickup sump as you can.

dont use a hole saw, use a step drill bit, going in as tight as possible so you get a snug fit.
you can go in a little at a time to get proper fitment.

Drill bits and step drills tend to grab, wooble and tear at the plastic fuel cells, especially when your trying to make a large hole for a #8 balkhead fitting.IF your hole is a little loose just use teflon washers which are recommended for both sides of the fitting.

sorry but i disagree totally. using a step bit goes in like butter and bulhead goes in nice and tight with a teflon washer.
the jaz bulkheads are the best by far.
a hole saw gives you a ragged edge and i havent liked the holesaw fit, it seems to be too loose.

I added return lines, located in the upper front corner of my aluminum fuel cell. Just make sure you can reach the backside so you can tighten the nut on the fitting. I had to remove the filler cap and ring to be able to get my hand into the fuel cell.
I think I just drilled out the hole, and tried to keep all the chips out, but I run a filter before the pump, so it should catch anything I missed

x2 i agree with SUPERSTOCKRACER,i used a step bit and it cut through with no effort and didn't damage the cell

a step drill bit works like a charm. only needed one bit to do every size hole up to the 10AN to feed the pump.

once you go too big your done and no going back, i put duct tape under the area where you drill to catch the shavings and then took a plastic bag and opened it up inside the fuel cell to catch the remaining shavings, i also removed the foam and then vacuumed out any remaining shavings with a shop vac.

If your going to vacuum it out no need to do all the tape and bag stuff.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

One more vote for using a step drill, it works nicely. Never attempt with a regular drill bit, it will grab and tear.

I also removed the filler neck to get my hand in there. Shop vac and a cloth to make sure everything is clean.

Yup, step drill, rag under area, shop vac, remove filler neck and make sure you can reach where you are putting the hole.
