Once the seal is cracked on a drum, how long is the Alky good for? Do you guys have any special procedures for storing? Do you put the top oil in right away?

Thx in advance
Diego

Hi keep it out of the sun preferably where ther is no temp change,or it will absorb moister. You can pour it in the cup of your floor jack and light it acouple of onces will be fine when it burns out look for any water left in the cup. That is the biggest problem with it.

yep, cool dry place is best. I keep mine in shed or my shop where it is often above 100*. I put the top lube in immediately. I have stored it for a year or so with no problems.

From the methanex website

Quote:

What is the shelf life/stability of methanol?

Without interference from or interaction with external contaminants, methanol will not deteriorate or decompose, thus the shelf life would be indefinite. Problems arise if the product is not protected from exposure to contamination, including exposure to the atmosphere.

I have had methanol in a barrel for 22 months and it tested the same as the day it was put in the drum.

That doesn't sound right to me, unless it has absorbed an enormous amount of water.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.
