I know Schubeck wouldn't warranty their lifters run in
bushed lifter bores..........

but, can somebody tell me WHY?

Vic, if I remember correctly, I think it has to do with some running the clearance too tight. You know them dumb stocker guys are always trying stuff...

Yes... though I can attest to the fact that the new SM lifters are of way better quality than the older Schubecks.

Price increase or not, I'm glad to hear some people are trying to better
their product, rather than outsourcing and jacking the racers.

Do you think Smith will fix this Schubeck? (It was NOT run in a bushed bore either.)

Any pictures of the current lifters?

I don't have any pics of my SM's. I don't know if he would fix it but he would probably want to look at it first. They are good guys with a great product. I would call and talk to them.

Really? Mine have been run for thousands of miles in bushed lifter bores w/o any problems.

It may not make you feel much better but, I didn't know
it was like that until I tore the engine down. It couldn't
come apart with the pushrod in it so, there wasn't any
damage or trash in the engine.

Here is a link concerning the new SM lifters.

http://www.aspenrt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=396

The quality of the ones Ive gotten has been dead on and ive had them right to 7k and so far so good. And they are on there second cam as well.

I got the kcid put to me by Joe as the few last sets I got from him were not even usable, the cups were machined different???? One lifter body was split from the box. JS...sucks.

The problem with the old Schubeks ( towards the end of their demise) wasnt lifter bushing use. Totally un related.

The new SM lifters are holding up great and MUCH better quality control and concern for a good product.

The new SM lifters are a great product. They are available in .842, .874, .903 and .921 diameter. They come hydraulic, solid, and lightweight solid. Prices are $685 per set for solids, $700 per set for lightweight solids, and $720.00 per set for hydraulics. I am a dealer of their product. I have some in stock. Email or call with your needs.
Also, Bob is now making this same lifter with a tool steel puck instead of the ceramic material if desired. They cost $100.00 per set less than above posted prices. They also require no break in, no zinc, and can be used on many different cams. They have also come out with limited travel/high RPM hydraulic roller lifters, .937 Keyway lifters, and the improved roller X lifter.
Bob will look at any existing Shubeck lifter. He can make new singles to match closely.

PS. The lifter in the picture appears to have had the puck come out. This is probably what Bob would call an Indian lifter, those had epoxied pucks that just didn't work.

Thanks Jeff. All good information.

Should I just throw these away?

If they are the epoxied lifters, than yes, you should probably not use them. If you send them in, Bob can verify if they are or not. Let me know if you need any help.

Thanks again,

JEFF

there's no doubt that the "new" style are much improved over the old ones.
out of respect for Jeff, i won't post our prices on those.
actually, now that i think about it, i don't think we're supposed to post prices in the forums anyway.

I'm not sure I want to persue the solid lifter thing now.
It's nice to know I blew $640 on an experimental piece,
that's not usable. 120 passes on them and obviously have
know idea when it came apart.

I could have bought rollers that would still be servicable
now for $640 or less.

OOPS, I didn't know that we couldn't post prices on here.........SORRY!!

I understand your distaste over the money spent on an experimental part that didn't last. Bob at SM makes no excuses for the old design. He improved it and ran with it. I have sold over 70 sets of his lifters in 2+ years with no reports of problems. I know that doesn't help your problem, but it does show that the lifters are now good pieces.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

JEFF

So would these live on the street? I've been running an older set in my bracket car for four years and love them. Just don't know about the street.
