I am just looking to build a 440 for a project short bed truck. I am just wanting to see what some of you have as far as engine upgrades and hp output in your 440. Heads, Cam, Carb, intake, etc

Nice deal. I have at this point a 72 block with steel crank, 10.5 to 1 ratio, weiand dual plane intake,906 heads, mechanical lifter, 288 duration 492 lift cam, 750 double pumper, and msd ignition. I was looking to see if I just want to refresh or go with aluminum heads and maybe a little different combo. Thats why I want to see what people are building

depends on what you want and how much $$$ you got. Those parts should give you a nice running 440

ya, I know what your saying. I just wanted to see some other peoples combos and maybe if they dynoed it what hp torque they made. I am not looking for a ray barton 30,000 dollar combo. Just some everyday guy builds with a little money invested.

What is your goal? I ran 12.90 in a basic re-bulid 440. Nothing fancy. .030 440, 9:1 (maybe) 906 heads no port work but 3 angle valve job and 2.08/1.81's, Summit 224-234 465-488 cam. headers, RPM intake, 750DP, 175K convert, 3.91's in a 67 Coronet. Add some more compression, a little more cam, better heads and you have an easy low-12 car you can drive anywhere.

All the components you have mentioned if sound should be good for around 380-400hp. A mopar magazine some 14 years ago built a 440 to 375hp specs. They made 365hp in this stock form. They then added an M1 single plane, holley carb, 509 cam and 1-3/4" headers. With that they hit 420hp.

Keep old mopars alive.

In the Tech Archive there are a couple of different builds that might help. Default 500hp is old school, but good.

Here is my mild budget 440 build in my 63.
Stock 1970 440 block , crank and rods with KB pistons.
906 heads I ported and milled for 10.0 comp using the quench dome pistons.
MP .557 mech cam and Isky ductile iron rockers.
Holley Street Dominator intake and a 850 DP.
Hedman 1-3/4 headers with 3" exh and Ultra-Flow mufflers.

In my 3700 lb 63 with 4.30 gears and a 30 x 9 tire it's run a best of 11.52 at 116 and I think it has a little more in it. Ron
