I am looking at having a 360 built as my 318 just lost a rod. It will be a stock block, mostly street driven and once in a while a strip car. Looking for something that is reliable and daily drivable. Have at it boys

Regular gas = Maybe 8 1/2 to 1 compression ratio, .455 lift, 214 dur. cam. Or a little stronger than those if ya want better times at the strip.

I was looking at no more than 9.5:1, no bigger than about a 500 cam, (might go with the smaller thumpr cam), worked 360 heads, etc

Buy the Summit Racing rebuild kit for a 360.It has good pistons (H405P's),good gaskets,good bearings,and a good price! Buy a Crane 150052 cam and set it at 4 degrees advanced.Use an Edelbrock Performer RPM,RPM Airgap,or an LD340 if you can find one.Use a 1" 4 hole spacer under the carb,and use a decent ignition system.Use stock 360 or Magnum heads with a good 3 angle valve job and good springs matched to the cam. Here's what not to do Don't use KB107 pistons,because they will give too much compression for a street motor.Don't use the cheap Chinese Air Gap intake...they are junk! Good luck kid,and sorry you blew your 318 up.

Mine is a '79 360 with
Comp XE268 cam (224/230@.050, .477/.480)
Speed Pro H116CP pistons (9.66 CR)
80's "345" heads with 2.02 valves put in
Perf RPM manifold
MP Windage tray
Melling HV oil pump
Heddman 1 5/8 headers
Holley 670 carb

Good for I guess 340-350hp, pulls plenty of vacuum for power brakes and idles at 600rpm in my '80 Mirada I drive every day even through the winter last year. I think it's a great driver combo.

The motor is being built in a shop by a friend. I have a 600 holley, ld340 and Dougs headers that are already on the 318 that are being switched to the 360

Sounds like you've got some key parts to swap onto the 360 One other thing you will need is a B&M flex plate to mate the externally balanced 360 to your existing convertor.If you plan on upgrading convertors while you have it apart,you can just get one that's balanced for a 360 and use the stock flex plate. I have a 360 built like I described,and it runs great in my 71 Challenger.It should run better in your A-body because it's several hundred pounds lighter than my Challenger.

A good one I had:

Never measured...the compression could have been b/w 8.2:1 although the guy said they were "9.0:1" pistons (but they were far down the hole...but I digress).
Stock 360 heads, 1.88 valves, 3 angle valve job.
MP .450/.455 cam, 268/272 duration
Edlebrock performer intake (better ones out there...this one was free).
Holley 4016 600 cfm carb, electric choke.
Hedman headers

In a valiant with 4 speed OD manual trans, 2.94 gears this thing started great, idle great in traffic, got as high as 25mpg if you really took it easy on the hwy (typical tank was 18mpg), and even better, went 14.2's all day at the track This was in a 4 door 1976 valiant.

with a relativly stock rebuild I highly recommend the Crower 267 HDP cam with the springs to go with it. It has lots of drivability, vacume and has good low end. 267/272 adv. dur with 475/485 lift. A great little cam. Ust this with a good intake like a LD4B or LD340 with a 650 carb and you will be happy.

There's a cheap Chinese version of the air gap out there?Is there anything these guys don't try to copy. Who makes its and who sells it? guess I want to make sure I don't get one of these on my rebuild.

Here is my 360 build;

* 360, .030 over KB107 pistons at zero deck
* Magnum cylinder heads with 0.039" gasket
* Comp XE268H cam 224/230@0.050, .509/.512 with 1.6 ratio magnum rockers.
* Professional Products Crosswind intake. Don't believe the naysayers that it's junk and a cheap copy. It's no more a copy of the Air Gap than an M1 dual plane is of a Performer. Side by side it's obvious it's not a copy plus the casting finish quality is better than an air gap.
*I am using a Holley 670 Street Avenger and Hedman headers.

This engine is making around 370 HP based on 102 mph trap speeds in the 1/4. Has 10.6:1 compression and with the closed chamber magnum heads and ideal quench runs fine on 89 octane.

I have just shy of 20k miles on it since installing it in my 68 Barracuda in Jul 05. It gets 17-18 mpg around town and 21-22 on the hiway.

The only down side to the engine is the XE cam's aggressive ramps makes for a noisey valve train compared to what I would expect from a hydraulic cam.
