Im right now at a cross road.. At the moment I have a 727 in my Charger. Sadly the 727 got tired of living and decided to burn up about 20 minutes before I got to the race track.. This bummed me out so bad that I havent even seen my car for about a month...

Anyways... Should I just rebuild the 727 or do a swap to a Powerglide. I kinda guess the money spent beefing up the 727 could be better spent on a PG trans???

The powerplant is a 426 Hemi, should be good for 650Hp, plan is to add a 2-300hp shoot of Nitrous later on.

Car is a close to stock weight 1970 Charger, stock weight with my fat butt in it..

My plan is (well I hope) to run a 9.xx sec time slip at some point..

Thanks...

/Tom

3800-3900? Little heavy for a glide, I think.

Thats kinda what I thought, but wanted to make shore, that the weight of the car might be a problem to run a PG..

A well built glide will definitely hold up in a car that heavy. I would say a 1.80 straight cut gear would be good idea though.

nope unless your an ET chaser . still ok for brackets

do some research

Have and wouldn't run a 2-speed in any car that heavy....even bracket racing

I do agree on the T-400 though

Hmm... Ok, then.. What would it take to make a 727 trans survive behind a 900Hp engine?

At only 650 HP I would just stay with the 727. I would go with a nice reverse pattern manual valve body though and make sure you have a bolt in sprag.
My 727 has seen about 5 seasons of racing in a 3700 pound car and 1 season in the Duster at 3400# both with around 600hp mills.
My new Engine should put out over 800 hp so I'm going to go through and strengthen the 727 a bit.

I just don't get it. Everyone wants to abandon the 727. You can go to a transmission parts supplier and get a clutch and seal kit for $100. Buy a billet drum for safety and a truck planetary for reliability. The two will cost $1,000. If you don't already have a good valve body then that is why you have burnt clutches. Tranzact would be my choice. Any Mopar junkie who has built their own 727 successfully can easily handle the build.

Ask your self this simple question. If torqueflites are such a peice of crap then why do the majority of comp guys run them even in the Chevies?

But, If you want a great powerglide I have two to choose from. With more tricks than you can imagine in them. Be glad to sell you one or even both of them.

I dont want to "abandon" the 727 OR think its crap in any way. To leave it be makes my life alot easier than having to mate the engine to another brand trans.. I was asking more because of curiosity than anything else..

The 727 I have has a bolt in sprag, good clutches, etc.. A Turbo Action manual valvebody..

At this time I have no idea what killed it.. It worked well one minute, then next minute it just lost al gears...

Hmm, could be the torque converter if you lost all gears.

1st gear worked for a little while, just enough so I did not have to push the car into the garage. But I had to rew the engine really high to get the car moving and keep rews high to keep it moving..

The whole thing happend on my way to the race track. It is a 60mile highway drive. I have a trans cooler, etc..

any questions???

Yeah, you forgot to mention that to get an equal to the Pro-flite you need a $7000 Rossler. I really don't understand why the push to convert everyone that mentions a 727 to gm transmissions.
