I need some advise. I have a new Challenger coming and trying to decide on paint or a wrap. I know the wrap is lighter and cheaper but has anyone had any experience with a wrap?? How does it last?? I have a friend that has a wrap on a dragster but they are all flat panels. What about the curves in a door car?? I understand that all the Pro Stock cars, Funny cars and even the nascar cars are wrapped. Just wondering and asking for opinions... Thanks in advance... Mack

I think I can help...since my business is in the wrap industry. 1. Wrap is marginally lighter but is limitless with colors...the more colors in paint you use the heavier it gets. 2. Wrap has a life span of up to 5 years...but thats only on the sides of the car because there is never direct sunlight on the sides of the car.Even the most expensive wrap is only good for 6 to 12 months on the roof, hood and trunk...now this is for a vehicle outsude all of its life.If this is a race car in a trailer or shop it will last for about 7 years all over the car. 3. Most people are under the impression that they can just wrap a car then pull it off 5 years later. Well it's not that easy. All wrap has a "clean removability "rating...most are 2 years. That means if you put it on your car it will easily remove for up to 2 years. After that it begins to bond with the paint surface under it and becomes difficult to remove.4. If you do wrap make sure your quote is based on CAST not CALENDERED vinyl...cast is just that...it's cast as sized...calendered starts as a small square then is pulled like taffy to make it bigger.Cast is very expensive compared to calendered but the claendered has memory and will try to shrink back to it's original size.So calendered will start to shrink right after it's installed and after about 3-6 months about 1/4" of your original paint will begin to show at all edges.Calenderd was designed for buses and taxis because they only stay on about 30 days in most cities. But beware cut rate wrap guys will use calendered.
Wraps are awesome...and can be washed and waxed like paint. And the limitless design of wraps cant be argued with.
Here's one of the top guys in the industry.

Curves arent a problem at all...we can even wrap helmets!...and there is one NASCAR ride that is still painted....the DuPont #24 of Jeff Gordan...other than that car....they are all jumbo decals!

what is the base pricing? does it go by square footage? roughly how many square foot does it take per car

Half wraps are 1800 to 2200 depending on vehicle...full wraps 4200-5500...on cars.It doesnt go by sq ft usually because cars like a Scion XB are easier to wrap therefore cheaper....but something like a VW bug or PT cruiser get charged more...tons of curves.

Thanks Chassisman... Still un-decided but leaning towards paint. Just for the fact it will last a lot longer. Especially on a race car... Mack

You can spray clear over wrap. But now with wrap technology there really is no need. MacTac makes some really shiney clears. They also make special effects clears with pearls ...flake...diamond plate...or carbon fiber all built into the clear laminate.

Some wrap jobs look great, nothing like paint. The wrap is more durable. If your anywhere around Port St Lucie, I have a friend that does all that, from boats, commercial vehicles, exc. P.M. and I will give you his number. He travels all around FL.
