Has any one here had Ricks Hot Rod Shop construct a custom tank with an electric fuel pump installed inside?
I think they may be expensive but everything constructed by hand usually is. My question is, are these tanks worth while and are the pumps good for a long period of operation? ie: Street duty.

A1000 Aeromotive units, heard that the pumps run cooler, stealthy, no exterior sump needed,
My car will see 70% street-30% strip.
I have a BG Hot Rod pump right at the moment that I finally got to stop leaking from the O-rings. Now the BG 5000 filter is leaking from the O-rings.

I just got mine about 2 weeks ago from Hector at Ricks. (A real nice guy- he owns the place) Absolutly a first class tank . I had them mount a Weldon 600 A flow thrue in the tank along with a 100 micron filter. I had them use 5/8" SS tube with #10 fittings ( in case I ramp it up later on .)

I had the same Weldon mounted under the car and could barley hear it ( with Motor running) >Now i cannot hear it with the motor running.
I WISH i had done this 10 yers ago. After trying various combos of fittings welded to stock tanks, hanging pumps under the car , wrapping the pumps in 6 layers of heat shield, suffering with pin hole air leaks that would not leak fuel , but would creat bubbles in the fuel system, plus all the plumbing just looked like poo under the car.

If there is a down side, it is that the tank added 35 lbs ( like for like)to the rear. They double wall the bottom of the SS tank so that the welds on the baffles do not show thue. If i had known that , I MAY have asked for the lightweight version

PM me your number and i go into more detail.
I Highly reccomend their tanks. If you go with Ricks , ask for Hector and tell him Mark likes his Challenger tank

If your interested, a guy here makes them locally. They are not stainless, but aluminum. I use the A1000 pumps in the tank, and it can be set up with one or two depending on your needs. I just had him build me a second one for my pro-street truck that he will be delivering this week. I also have one sunk into the trunk of my Cuda. He is very resonable on cost, and quality is excellent. I had no place to put the fule pumps and filters on my pro-street Cuda, and inside the tank was the best spot. Plus I got to keep all my trunk space.

I got a custom stainless steel tank from Hector for my 1970 'Cuda. It's an inch wider on each side and has a 2 1/2' deeper steped bottom and has internal baffels.

It bolts into the stock location, clears everything, and the #12 pick-up comes through an exsisting body plug hole in the trunk. It also has 3 #10 return lines and a #10 vent on the passenger side for the Performance Engineering fuel pump bypass lines plus a line to fill/mix race gas from an fuel cell in the trunk.

Nice tank, overall good experience with them. Much better than anything else I could find out there, with more capacity to boot.

Here's one of it installed, with longer stanless steel straps. The 3" TTI exhaust comes close to the front corner of the tank near the rear-end, but clears no problem.

I'm running this Product Engineering pump, because it's was the only pump I could find that doesn't say NOT to mount it above the fuel level or it will void the warranty. It's surprisingly quiet too. This was during the test fitting stage. The pump and regulators are of great finish quality.

Dragula, I have a request from your man.
Can he fabricate an aluminum one to replace my stock one so that I have a internal Aeromotive pump with filter and service hole, fuel level float and the filler tube is retained in the original spot? I can supply the original one out of my car from years back. Its a 1965' Dodge Coronet.

PM me your e-mail address, and some pics if you can. I will e-mail it all to him and see. That's a pretty tall order compared to mine. I have a sending unit and all, but I did not have to clear and mate up to all the stock stuff. Although mine did present some other technical issues, it was realitively easy to install.

Here's a pic of the one he just built for my D100 he will be bringing by this week. Looks bigger than it actually is, but has an A1000 pump along with an autometer sending unit.
