You might want to ask for documentation or take a look at the fender tag. A three speed was standard. The 318 4 speed combination was not supposed to be available. Maybe it was a 383 and the engine was changed or a three speed and the transmission was changed.

if the 318 was not available more likley it was a 273 common mistake to confuse the two.
