60' 1.664
330" 4.680
1/8 7.251
mph 95.30

Are the 3.73 gears possibly hurting my 60s, and helping the mph?

Well cab I'm just trying to get the new combo dialed in.

7.31 @ 95 was the previous best, shifting @ 5700.

Yesterday during time trials, I ran 2 more 7.3s, and was told I would have to slow it down since I do not have a roll bar .

So I said sure, i'll just short shift it. Shifted now at 5000 rpm. Car went 7.2, and 95.5 MPH. Actually picked up a bit, shifting at a lower rpm. Fuel related maybe.

I was just noticing that alot of guys running my 60' time, of 1.6 or so, usually have a little lower mph.

Your ET is pretty close to the MPH.......but from what I remember of your buildup, they're both fairly low for what you have........Maybe the air where you're at is really bad???........I've been 7.17 @ 95MPH which was 11.36 @ 116 in the 1/4......

We need a recap on your buildup......

Just curious but do you know the rake measurement on your car.

Stock bodied 68 Dart

1980 lbs front/1540 rear, if I remember correctly, with me in it

493
11.2-1
ootb rpm heads, 84cc
.540 lift flat tappit hydraulic 250/263 @ .050
rpm intake
biggs stage 3 850 dp
MSD 6al, msb billit distributor & coil
2" TTIs
Aeromotive pump, stock tank, 3/8 lines

727 fille with CRT stuff
RMVB
3800 PTC converter

Dana 60 with 3.73s
MT drag radials 325-50-15
Caltracs, split monos, Rancho 9 way, CE's up front

This is what I can think of right now.

Foot braking, leaving at 2000 or 3000 doesn't seem to make a difference as far as 60' times are concerned. Don't know what my trap rpm was as I was more concerned with the other lane. I really found it hard trying to slow it down 3 tenths and be consistent doing it.

Weekend was dissapointing because it was supposed to be a t n t weekend, but saturday was rained out, and only 3 time trials Sunday morning. And then my rad was eaten by my fan .

I know my build is mild, but I think it should have alittle more in it. Just can't seem to get a chance to do a bunch of test passes.

thanks for any input

Gears aren't the problem

Tires aren't spinning?

How much timing?

Is the carb opening all the way?

Was the carb built for you motor? Have you tried leaning it out?

Converter is tighter than what I run in anything, but that's not where your trap speed problem is coming from.......

For comparison, this car, with a different motor, used to run 11.40's @ 116 with a stock stroke, pump gas 440 with stock iron heads, Comp .501 hydraulic cam, Victor intake, and fenderwell headers at 2,500 feet of air......It had 3.55 gears and a converter that would flash 4,300.......I then put a set of stock Edelbrock heads on it with a solid roller camshaft, that was actually milder than the the Comp .501 hydraulic, and it now runs 10.70's @ 124, still with the stock stroke, still with 3.55's.....so this is a street car.........owner doesn't even own a car hauler..........

I don't think the tires are spinning. Doesn't feel like it anyhow.

Timing is 16* initial, and 36* total, all in by 2200.

Jesse (BIGGS) built the carb for my engine.

81/89 jets
4.5 power valve primary, none on the secondary.
.037 primary/secondary shooters
50cc pump on primary, 30 on secondary

As for the converter, yah it's a little tight, but this is a street car first, thus the 3.73 rear.

Probably gonna take it out on the highway for some carb tuning once I get the new rad and fan in next week .

When I was shifting at 5700, it did seem to sputter at that rpm a little. Maybe that's why it picked up shifting at a lower rpm
