I bolted and OEM style dust cover on to my transmission this weekend. When I started the engine up to pull it out of the garage it sounded like something was stuck in the fan.

I shut if off and looked it over. I pulled the dust cover back off and the bolts on the flex plate had "clearanced" the dust cover (shield).

I could see where it was stamped so the stock converter bolts would clear, but since I have a B&M Flex plate with 9 1/2" converter, the torque converter bolts didn't clear the dust cover.

So now I am shopping for a new dust cover.

Does anyone make dust covers for smaller converters like this? What is the best way to keep stuff from getting in there?

Our cars are not daily drivers, but we have never had a problem with omitting the cover.

They made 2 of them, one for the larger converter and one for the smaller.

Mine was a daily drive (OK 6 moths a year hear in Canada but 8 months one year drove it in December)
But I did not roar down gravel roads bottoming it out and so on but there was never anything in the tranny front and my feeling is it cools TQ better???
Drove it as much as I could 210 mile return trip to a friends every other week end for years. 4.10 gear low 12's then the last few years street 4.56 gears local, to work and out to my old home town, last year I drove it on the street was 2002 ran 11.13 that fall then I retired and sold the street rims and tires car is in need of a restore and retired no money for street.
Part time job is likely in my future if I want to keep racing. company just cut our benifets added co pay on health plus a bigger deductable on drugs + 10% co pay on remainder of cost and us old guys need our drugs! LOL!! Add to that they cut indexed raises on our pension for the forseeable future!!! Still lucky to have what I have I guess??
