On tunnel ram and dominator equipped cars I would go with a aero style scoop. I had one on my S/G car and it worked well..There is a reason all the pro stock are running them, they are worth a bunch over the older style snorkle scoops.

I'd be tempted to try ducting air from the inboard headlamp openings into hats (or an oval box) for the carbs, and use a cowl hood without the front holes.
30 years ago, we proved the deal with air sucking the mixture out the tops of the carbs on a tunnel-ram '57 SB Vette; fabricating a simple cover that blocked air from the front & back but open on the sides, using a simple flat sheet of aluminum, fixed that, but it sure was ugly.
If you can borrow an aero scoop, mock it up to determine if you can see the 'tree while staging.
Venting the hood at the rear will get rid of the air in the engine compartment hitting the firewall.

EVEN the taller max wedge scoop would be period correct for your car and be the best functioning.

Show me a pic of the hood an scoop it needs.

Have you ever seen the clear plexiglass scoops? I think RT540 had one and I saw cars in Orland with them. They don't detract from the car or hood since they are clear. They have a good size opening too. [/quote

I can't even imagine how tall a "period correct" scoop would have to be to fit Shawns car, I think a MW scoop that tall would be one ugly beast.

Gonna have to be an aero scoop to fit that setup.

That's what I like about Shawn "dare to be different" and use what works best (heaven forbid) instead of what the "Mopar Gods" deemed correct.

Go for it, I wanna see a bumper draggin 8 second time slip

The scoop works for AJ and I'm pretty sure his car's all Mopar (if it matters )

Maybe you could get the Wescotts to help you. They run a PERIOD CORRECT type scoop and with less than 450 cubic inches they are running 8.40's @ 155 to 158.

Carbs are way to close to the top of the hood..you have to have atleast 1 inch over the vent tubes..2 inch is more like it..put you a nice looking aero scoop on it...I bet it would pick up 2 tenths..

I would have said the same thing an hour ago but then I saw the pics at Moparmax.com of both of the Wescot's cars at Indy.
http://www.moparmax.com/events/2009/iv_9-hemi-1.html
The vents look like they are holding the scoop up LOL. Conventional wisdom says that should not work . Duh.

I think I would try the short aero scoop on top of your existing cowl hood like a few others have suggested.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

I`ve been debating the issue of air horn clearance for years simply based on the super stock hemi`s......
