Remove the ballast and use a wire to connect the ends together to bypass it.

Ummmm doesn't it depend on what type of coil you have? Or does going to a 6al make the coil need more voltage...

the coil gets its power and from the MSD box. the 12v from IGN on only turns the box on and off. the coil voltage comes from a big transformer in the MSD box which gets its main power from a separate power lead (not the 12v ign power).

So the ballast resistor does NOTHING

So where is a good, safe place to get the needed 12v ignition power from. I ask because I am doing the same setup. MSD even sent out a new ballast to use. Can I get it from the now unused ballast hot side?

If you're using a msd 6al or similar type box, you don't need a ballast resistor. Those units have a current-limiting system built into them. Your original chrysler ecu did NOT have a current limiting feature, hence the need for the ballast to keep the coil from overpowering itself during normal driving.

Read your instructions, they have this info in it. Even my new msd coil instructions say to ONLY use a ballast resistor if you're using an ignition that does not have a current-limiting circuit built into it.

MSD system doesn't require ballast to coil because the coils is not getting anymore constant power on each spark pulse making it heat. Being now MULTIspark, won't get power constantly to get heated and damaged. Gets some cold between spark to keep it safe

yes or you can jump across the ballast resistor. look at this link http://www.msdignition.com/uploadedFiles/MSDIgnitioncom/Products/Ignitions/6420_instructions(1).pdf under the figure entitled "CHRYSLER IGNITIONS Wiring a Chrysler Electronic Ignition using Magnetic Pickup Trigger" on page 19
