primlinstc OP member P Joined: Nov 2007 Posts: 24 North Carolina	Need some help trying to figure out some number decoding on a 68 Charger. I bought the 68 Charger VIN XS29L8B - came with a clear title but no fender tag. But after I got the car back to my storage place I looked at the radiator support bracket and I read some numbers that don't match. The numbers were B8X084724. Now what I think this says is that the car is really a slant six car ...but what does the X stand for? The X is very clear and is not anything but an X. the car has the bigger brakes on it, the BB rear springs but I am not sure. If anyone can shed some light on this. I have seen a few of my 67/68 barracudas with the same issues but..I can't be buying all bogus cars..please help.

They stamped the SO # & the only way to truely tie the body to the VIN is with a broadcast sheet or a IMB punch card... Trust me it's freaked out quite a few guys that are more familar with 69 & newer Mopars.. Me included..

Galen has it pretty well laid out in his 66-68 Production Option Code Book (page 30 in my 1996 version).
