Talked with John at CRT about getting the new tranny up and running(727 Super Pro IIw/ T brake, PTC 4800 stall) He recommended Pennzoil Dex II Merc III.!?????

Since this is his tranny and he has forgotten more than I will ever know about them I will go with his recommendation but I gotta admit I was kinda surprised! I guess I always figured Pennzoil was kinda crappy (kinda REAL crappy)....

What do you guys think?

Friends recommend Amsoil transmission fluid. The extra cost is offset by additional life of the transmission. But it is Johns tranny, and I would think he knows whats best for his children.. He's got a zillion of them out in the field..

Why would you not take the recommendation of your tranny builder?

You trusted him to build the trans, why wouldnt you trust his judgement on what fluid to run?

I do trust him and I will be using the Pennzoil. I guess it just kind of surprised me. I know he was in a bit of a hurry when I talked with him so I didn't get to pick his brains about why he goes with Pennzoil.
He did also say not to worry about changing it out after the first few hundred miles/passes.
I gotta admit - it will be nice not having to pay $$$$/qt for something finally!

I am sure it will be fine with that fluid. Everyone has an opinion right?

My rollerized 727 is in its 6th year with whatever cheap advance auto/autozone type F I can get. 100's of 9 second passes and it is stll working great.

I'm pretty sure John Cope knows what he's talking about.
