forget the BS over originality. what would be best ? 3710lb 68 satellite street/strip. I would be looking at 4.1 gears and detroit locker with stock mopar rear brakes All items will have to be imported so my $ numbers tend to be higher Tex

I chose Dana because it was less $. Thinking about it now, spending the 1000$ more for the similar level 9" would have propably not been a bad investment.

Soucing parts for a Dana in Australia can be a challenge and we usually have to pay for the privilidge. I would stick with a 9", as there are parts everywhere for those things. Try and find a 9" housing out of a F100 or F150 as they are the beefiest. I bought a Strange housing for my project. AL....

I did just that, and I haven't changed gear ratios or had much problems with the Dana. I don't have to change gear ratios, cause I would need a longer gear than the 4.10, and no such pro gears for Danas. The axle to housing attachment seems to be a problem in a Dana too, but can propably be helped with LPW cover and girdle. It also weighs more than a 9". And the resale value and ease is quite different. But I guess, that for most people a Dana would work just as well as a good 9".

For a heavy, torquey street/strip car you can't beat a new Dana 60 assy.
Bolt-in 35 spline S-60 assy $1875 Upgrade to Detroit Locker $370
TOTAL $2245
A comparable, street type 9" will cost more, weigh about the same, and rob more power. In addition, as far as I know, all street 9" gears use the tiny, 28 spline pinion.

since money is tight, you would spend less with the Dana. a good 9" drop-in pumpkin with all the bells and whistles will cost more than a complete Dana. if you want to build a 9" that will be as strong as a Dana, you will spend a fortune. you already know what gears you want, that eliminates the biggest benefit of having a furd 9"...changing gears in a hurry.
i ordered a Dana from Strange with exactly what you want, plus race axles...$1800...a lot cheaper than a similar 9" setup.
if you're wanting to really save money, get a truck Dana, or 9" from the junk yard
not speaking as a purist, just facts
not really, you can get an aluminum center section complete for under $1500

I called up Mark Williams Enterprises and I was starting from scratch and I told them we can run whatever they want in my car. This is what they sent me.

Well I have had both under my car and the Dana looks WAY cooler but the 9" is much easier to change gears on.Sometimes I wish I would have kept the 9" but then I look at the Dana under my car and I say "yeah you made the right choice" So if you want easy gear changes go with the 9",but if you want it to be cool and strong that you can tune to the gear go with the Dana Gus
