Do you really need than much output voltage? I use to widen the spark plug gap to make the coil voltage go up, the car didn't really need the higher voltage as it wasn't really straining the ignition system with the gap at .060 on a MSD 7A with the MSD coil let alone at .090 gap i run .045 now with the new type resistor wires required on the newer(old?) MSD race boxes like the 7AL2 and the newest digital boxes

What I don't understand is why MSD can't design them to work on say, 11.5-15V--you know, "normal" voltage.

Installed one of Speedway Motors step up boxes. Puts 17 volts into MSD from 12v. Ran car at 1/8mi and 114.29mph. Bad track 1.39 60s. Plugs never looked so good. Motor happy.

Yeah....trying gap at .045 from .040. Seems to like it, shift at 7400. 1 12v batt and Shogun alt. Checked coil spark and noticeable diff in spark. MSD 7al 2.
